The Turkish Gazi Derby, which has been ongoing continuously since 1927 in the name of our great leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, was run yesterday for the 83rd time.
The Derby, in which 3 year old Thoroughbred fillies and colts are allowed to participate for only once during their racing life, was won by Mr. Ahmet Kiliçcioglu's MIRAMIS ( by Sri Pekan x Satilmis ( DOWN THE FLAG) ( USA) ) with jockey Gökhan Kocakaya by 2.30.33.
In the Derby that is ran on 2400 metres Turf Track, ÇAKILHAN stayed on to take the second place, Frankie Dettori had to settle for third place with CHI and ZEEV finished in the fourth place. The margins were 1.5 Lengths - 2 Lengths - 2 Lengths.
The top jockey of the world, Frankie Dettori rode CHI (Unaccounted For - Agas Joy) in the Derby and no doubt he had his chances to win and take the re-match of 2008 Istanbul International Races.

Though CHI, picked up pace after the last bend, even taking the margin up to 2.5 Lengths in the last 400m, she couldn't lay down a genuine threat to the winner as she lost her pace in the last 200 and stayed on to take the third place. The racing crowd in Veliefendi Racecourse showed a high interest in Frankie Dettori and cheered for him when he passed by the stands before the race.
The winner and also the pre-race favourite, MIRAMIS waited patiently and found its way easily from indise with his young talented jockey Gökhan Kocakaya, aged 22. Gökhan Kocakaya became one of the youngest jockeys to win the GAZI Derby.
Over 40.000 fans at the Veliefendi Racecourse were applauding him afoot and many cheering his name while he was holding the cup with deserved honor.
The victorious Miramis passed by the stands after winning the race and received loud cheers and applauses from the racing crowd.
