Pocket Power's pilot in serious training for J&B Met

Pocket Power's renowned jockey Bernard Fayd'Herbe, has been undergoing an intense training regime with one of South Africa's most legendary personal trainers and Muay Thai champions Winston Chong. The pair met at the Queens Plate and Fayd'Herbe has enlisted the services of the Dragon Power boss to strengthen and maintain his weight for the 2010 J&B Met, where he attempts to pilot Pocket Power into a world record fourth consecutive victory.

Bernard, who's relaxed weight is around 64 kilos when not in the saddle, has become accustomed to having to waste substantially before every race meeting to achieve his riding mass. The result is severe body weakness and he is often unable to ride out his full allotted race card as a result.

"I never knew I was that weak" said Fayd'Herbe , who has been in daily training for three weeks at the Dragon Power kwoon in Cape Town. "Winston does not play games" he quipped, "I have never worked at this intensity level before but it has been worth every second. I feel stronger and more confident than ever before"

Besides training multiple fighters to world MT titles, the two time world champion Quentin Chong, also currently trains World MMA Champion Randy Couture. The Chong brothers, Winston and Quinton, have established a niche system of training techniques for sportsmen and woman of all proportions. "We get our clientele to achieve their goals through intensive fitness training, state of the art dietary strategies and traditional Muay Thai techniques. Everyone is different and are treated accordingly"

'When Bernard first came in, he was very weak in his upper body and his yo-yo diet had not helped matters "said Chong. " Bernard has difficulty in maintaining his weight as he is quite tall for a jockey. We have altered his diet severely, like we do for our fighters in the lead up to a competition and worked fairly intensively at his fitness level."

'I have managed to get his weight to maintain at around 58 Kilos going into the final week, but I will have him at between 56.5kg and 57 kg for Saturday. The main difference for him is that he won't have to waste before the big race and he will go into the day feeling much stronger and more confident" said Winston.

Be sure to catch the Chong's in action when their new reality TV show, Way Of The Warrior, hosted by Colin Moss, premiers on M Net early this year. A must watch reality competition that whips out of shape contestants into ultimate fighting warriors through Muay Thai training. The only way to stay in - You gotta fight for it!
