THREATS AGAINST BLOOMBERG ATTRACT HEFTY FINE

 Inquiry - Mr R Bloomberg and Mr R Gomes

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Cape Town on 18 February 2010, Colour Holder Mr Richard Gomes was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.18, in that on the day of the J & B Met i.e. 30 January 2010 at approximately 21h00 at the Kenilworth Race Course, he directed threatening and abusive language towards Mr Robert Bloomberg, a National Board Director of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa.

The Inquiry Board found Mr Gomes guilty and imposed a fine of R20 000.00 of which R10.000.00 is wholly suspended for a period of five years, provided that Mr Gomes is not found guilty of a contravention of Rule 72.1.18 during that period.

 

Inquiry - Mr P Rugg and Mr S Murray

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Zimbabwe on 25 February, 2010, Owners Mr P Rugg and Mr S Murray were charged with contravention of Rule 72.1.26 in that after the running of Race 7, on 6 February 2010, they behaved in an inappropriate manner which has or might have the effect of discrediting horse racing or which does or might bring into disrepute the good name of the National Horseracing Authority and the Mashonaland Turf Club.

Both Mr Rugg and Mr Murray pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Mr Rugg and Mr Murray guilty and imposed a fine of US$1250.00 for each of them.

Mr. Rugg and Mr. Murray have the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
