MAJOR SHUFFLE TO ACCOMMODATE THE WORLD CUP

Not only has the Vodacom July changed dates but so has the Canon Gold Cup as well as the Champions Cup raceday.

The changes to the schedule have occured due to the Fifa World Cup where host cities have signed agreements with Fifa in order to only host the soccer in that city during the World Cup window period and no other major sporting events. Rugby has suffered a similar fate.

The KZN winter season starts on April 2 with the KZN Stakes, a listed event and concludes with the Clairwood raceday on August 7, the day normally associated with the Canon Gold Cup.

The Rising Sun will now sponsor the R750 000 Champions Cup at Clairwood while no other new sponsors have been announced to date. There are three races worth a million rands or more; these include the R1m Daily News 2000, R1.2m Canon Gold Cup and the Vodacom July at R3 million.
