Sarafina and Rosanara gave owner the Aga Khan and trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre a one-two in the Prix De Diane (French Oaks) at Chantilly.

The winner, ridden by Christophe Lemaire, stretched her unbeaten record to three with a smooth success. Valasyra did her job as pacemaker for her two stablemates in great style before Zagora made a bid for glory early in the straight, while Deluxe found trouble towards the inside.

The main action was towards the centre of the course where Sarafina burst through to lead a furlong out and she scored cosily from Rosanara. Sandbar did her best to trouble the front two but had to settle for third place.

The Aga Khan was delighted to celebrate a double in a classic that has been so important in his career as an owner and breeder.

He explained: "I would like to thank the teams who bred these fillies and the one that trains them. Both fillies are born and bred in France. One comes from an old French family that came to my stud when I bought the stock of Mrs Dupre. The other one comes from my own stud.

"I am often asked when I will produce a great colt. But it's the great fillies that are more important for the stability and the future of my stud. And that is what is important to me."

De Royer Dupre has trained all six of the Aga Khan's Prix de Diane winners and added: "It is very important for me to point out the teamwork behind such a success. The winter is long and the work repetitive. You have to be passionate and you need to take great care every day to be successful.

Godolphin were out of luck in Italy as Campanologist could finish only third in the Gran Premio Di Milano at San Siro.

A winner in Dubai in March, his last start was also in Italy and Frankie Dettori travelled to his homeland for the ride.

However, it was Jakkalberry, behind Campanologist at Capannelle last month, who came home three-quarters of a length in front of Getaway.
