AMBLEWAY GRADUATES TO FEATURE ON GOLD CUP DAY!

The feature racing now moves to the top stayers race The Canon Gold Cup over 3200 meters. We have 4 graduates competing in this race, a true test of stamina-BOLD WONDER who ran a gutsy third in the Lonsdale Cup over 2400; PREDESTINATION who has come through his preparation runs in fine style, he won his last stamina test over 3000 metres easily. SPEED FOR GOLD ran close up in the Lonsdale and should enjoy this next trip at Greyville where he has shown top form and GOLDEN PARACHUTE who shows plenty of staying ability and has been prepared specifically for this marathon being by English Derby winner Montjeu. Watch all these graduates compete on Saturday in the BIG ONE!

Also competing on Gold Cup Day are SHARKS BAY and THANDOLWANI in the Thukela Handicap, a listed race over 1600.The Grade 2 Gold Bracelet for Fillies sees LOVE IS IN THE AIR compete again against the best fillies around over 2000 metres. Watch these horses as all of them have run and won at Greyville!

So far we are delighted with the achievements of our some of our babies in this Champion Season in KZN.

LINK MAN showed his supporters a clean pair of heels in the recent Gold Medallion Grade 1 at Scottsville on Sprint Day. He faced a very strong field of colts and came through at the end of the race to beat other highly fancied runners. This was a great achievement for top KZN conditioner Dennis Drier as he confirmed his previous 2 facile wins at the same course and distance of 9 and 7 lengths were no flukes! Congratulations to Duncan Barry who raised this colt and suggested to his owner \breeders Larry Nestad ,Greg Blank and the Yutar family to keep him to race as he was such a super specimen. Well he was correct!!

Dennis Drier was also successful in The KZN Chapter Challenge over 1600 metres with the colt whom he rates highly-STAR EMPIRE. This son of Second Empire he trains for his wife Gill and race goer Michael Gramanie. Congratulations to you all!

Ambleway graduates have scored a treble of wins and two doubles at the same meeting during the past month. The treble was TWO TONE, JO PIPER and RISE AGAIN who all won over sprint and mile distances at Greyville at the same night meeting. Well done to their conditioners Dennis Drier and Wendy Whitehead and their respective connections.

Our babies also scored two doubles on Scottsville Sprint day LINK MAN won over a sprint and PREDESTINATION won a stamina race. Soon after STRING OF STARS and FORECASTLE scored at the same meeting! Again congratulations to their conditioners Dennis Drier,Joey Ramsden, Michael Roberts and Craig Eudey and their connections.

Our Ready To Run graduate WOLF ON THE FOLD came out in his debut to run a cracking fourth. He followed this up by winning his next start over1400 metres in easy fashion for conditioner Brett Crawford and Ian Longmore his owner. We were delighted with this result as I had encouraged Ian to buy him at the Ready To Run Sale last year. Long may his success continue for you both and his breeders at Highlands Stud Farm.

Ambleway has been well supported by the Moodley Racing Team over the past year and we were delighted for them and partner/trainer Garth Puller when SABRINA won over 1600 meters. She has been competing in races too short for her and when asked the question over a bit more ground was not found to be lacking! She hacked up by over 3 lengths!

Another top filly owned and bred by Robin Bruss of Northfields Stud is GRACIE JONES. This filly by champion USA racehorse Smarty Jones is out of the Northfields mare Circle Of Life the dam of Cape Met winner Zebra Crossing. This filly won her fourth start very well over 2000 metres and can be aimed at better things as she has now won 2 from 4 starts for Geoff Woodruff.

We have been associated with Des Scott for some time and I was pleased to see that he had success with two horses that he was also involved with breeding; NATIONAL HUNT whom he bred at Scot Bros won in Kimberley and GOLD FOR IRELAND whom he bred overseas and owns with Robert Muir won in Port Elizabeth. DEBONAIR MAN that he used to own won for his new connections, The Sham Family in P.E. Congratulations to all concerned.

Horses that have been placed and should win soon include the juveniles SNAPPY, CHILL and HAIL ATLANTIS. Older horses to watch include RAHKEE,KEEP THE KEY, NEVER FOREVER, FRANKIE MERCURY, MEDICIAN WOOD, NATIONAL NITE MARE AND STREET CRED.

The KZN Sale was held at Germiston due to the World Cup Soccer being of paramount importance . The new venue did prove to be disappointing for most Natal Breeders who did not sell their stock well and many were brought back to be sold or placed later. We received a smart Mogok filly REIGNING RUBY from the new stud farm Hadlow owned by Jonathan and Cathy Martin. This is a racey filly purchased by Ian Longmore and will race in Johannesburg .

We also received a draft of horses that were bred and grown out at Hadlow Stud for owner/trainer St. John Gray. These horses are largely by his two National Assembly stallions ANNOUNCE and Sarge. We schooled ANNOUNCE some years back as well as most of the dams of these youngsters! It really is fantastic spending a trip down memory lane with top mare like FINEST VIEW who won the KZN Guineas in her hey day. She is from a top family of the Kosters and is a half sister to the likes of Argonaut! Amongst others are good racemares FINE CHOICE and PEDREGAL! We will watch these horses develop as they are put through there paces here at the farm.

We are involved again with The Nicholas Rey Foundation Trust. We schooled the dam FAR AND AWAY for the trust and now are involved in preparing her yearling colt by Our Casey Tibbs for the track. This colt is to be raced by the Sharks Rugby Team and they have named him SHARK BITE! We will keep you posted as to his progress here at Ambleway and hope that he can bring the Trust plenty of success for their worthwhile venture; the raising of funds for injured sportsmen.

That's all the news for now. Enjoy the big races this KZN Champion Season!
