Emirates Racing Authority announces the 2010/2011

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of UAE, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Emirates Racing Authority, has approved the fixtures list for the 2010/2011 racing season at Jebel Ali Racecourse, Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Meydan Racecourse and Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club.

This season of racing in the United Arab Emirates will see an increase in the total number of fixtures from 46 in 2009/2010 to 50 over the 2010/2011 season. Jebel Ali will once again host the opening meeting on Friday, November 5, 2010 and see 11 fixtures this year. The closing day will fall on March 25, 2011, the Friday before the Dubai World Cup and offers a strategic opportunity to highlight another important UAE racing facility to the international audience who will be converging in Dubai.

The opening weekend for the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club will see the first of 15 scheduled fixtures for the season on Sunday, November 7, 2010.

Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club’s first of 4 fixtures will open the season’s first double header on Saturday, November 13, 2010.

Following the successful launch of Meydan Racecourse in early 2010, racing will return with the start of the Winter Meet at Meydan, with the first of 6 fixtures to take place on Thursday, November 11, 2010. This is followed by the Spring Meet at Meydan, which will run across 3 meetings, with the first race on Thursday, January 6, 2011. The ever popular Dubai International Racing Carnival will run over 10 meetings, with the first to be conducted on Thursday, January 13, 2011.

Meydan Masters, which was launched in 2010 and won by jockey Richard Hills, returns on February 17 and 18, 2011, and will feature 2 races each day. Super Thursday will return on March 3, 2011, with an additional fixture slated for the week after on March 10, 2011. The 16th running of the Dubai World Cup will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 and rounds up the season at Meydan. This brings to a total, 20 meetings which will be run at Meydan for the upcoming season.
