Zenyatta Entered for Clement Hirsch

As has been widely expected, Jerry and Ann Moss's Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire}) will attempt to run her record to a perfect 18 from 18 when she faces five other mares in Saturday's GI Clement L. Hirsch S. at Del Mar.

The two-time champion older mare drew the five hole with regular rider Mike Smith and is the 123-pound highweight under allowance conditions; she will give her rivals only two to four pounds. The six-year-old gave her backers and fans arguably the biggest scare of her career in the 2009 Hirsch, racing well off a slow pace before getting up in the final two jumps.

She also took the 2008 renewal.

Oh how boring. With the stiff competition & riveting races her connections keep entering her in, this mare's name should be changed to Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzenyatta. sigh

..............you call winning 17 out of 17 including beating some of the best colts in the world at the Breeders Cup boring??? I'll have that type of bore any time of the day. Perhaps Hear the Drums connections should also rather only have run him in Grade 1's and 2's instead of going for the record!!!

Uh... when you have a mare of this class, who as you've pointed out, beat up on all the top males out there in the Breeders Cup, then sending her into the kind of GR1 races that attract subpar fillies, OVER & OVER again, IS boring!!! Its like watching an Olympic champion like Bolt, beating up on school kids at their primary school athletics meet. Dont get me wrong, I think she's great, but thats why its so frustrating seeing her connections wasting that talent on mediocre fillies all the time. I'd far rather see Zenyatta face the best colts in USA a few times, in riveting open company races that actually challenge her (even if she were to lose a race or two in doing so), than watch her chasing records that look good on paper, but are questionable when seen in context of the fields she's usually facing.

Christiaan, South Africa, (2009-02-17 15:13:43) (549 days ago)
no need for cursing Shah, but I agree with you. She is unbeaten and hopefully will stay so for all time! Her owners enter her into condition races that suit her, the others decide NOT to run against her, not the other way around.

ok i apologise ,but only because Christiaan makes so much sense.I think that if she ran in this yaers July Jacob Zuma would have lost money..............

Pffft. Curse all you want Shah - my opinion doesn't change. She is undeniably brilliant, but that is exactly why its such a shame & travesty that her connections are too frightened & unambitious to test her against open company more often. Cigar's 16 win streak - now that was something! Why? Because that horses ran all over the country, at so many different tracks, always facing the VERY BEST America had to offer, instead of constantly running in his own back yard & beating up on little more than allowance level horses. Its not Zenyatta I blame, I really do admire her (she's one hellova incredible horse), but its her connection's decisions that frustrate me to no end.

@Christiaan: Oh & with regards to your argument there, nope your wrong. Last time I checked, those "conditions" races she keeps entering in are restricted to fillies & mares only. So the likes of Quality Road, Blame & Rail Trip (to name a few of the America's current best) would need a sex change to make your argument of "others deciding not to run against her" a valid one. Ah well, at least there's still this years Breeders Cup - now that at least will be a thriller!
