REGAL PARADE TAKES MAURICE DE GHEEST

British raider Regal Parade (PICTURED) secured his second Group One triumph with a determined effort in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.

Dandy Nicholls' six-year-old was sent off at 5-1 to supplement his recent Newbury triumph in the Shadwell Stakes and travelled strongly for the trainer's son Adrian.

Classy filly Joanna looked the most likely winner when cruising up menacingly passing the furlong marker, but Regal Parade got into top gear and stuck on really well to score.

The William Haggas-trained High Standing ran a fine race to finish third, while Barry Hills' Prime Defender was fifth.

Nicholls jnr said: "He's an ex-Mark Johnston horse and everyone knows how tough his horses are - and this horse is no different.

"The filly travelled really well and I wanted to try and get cover behind her if possible as it was a really rough race down on the inside.

"I'm not saying our horse travels as well as her, but he does travel better when he's in behind them. I was a bit worried passing the furlong marker, but my fellow has such a big heart and gave it his all at the finish.

"I'm not sure if there's anything for him beforehand but he'll definitely go back to Haydock for the Sprint Cup (September 4), which he won last year.

"After that we might look at the Prix de la Foret over seven furlongs at Longchamp."
