Singapore Race Previews, Racecards and Selections

A strong card of races on Sunday from Singapore including the Singapore Group 3 Committee's Prize, a handicap event over 1600m and with no BETTER THAN EVER in the field, it looks a very even affair and value galore. Pat Shaw (pictured) plays a big hand saddling THUNDERING JET (Barend Vorster) with Sean Cormack and Robbie Fradd on outside hopes BIG MAVERICK and THE HORNET respectively. RACE 7: CLASS 3 - 1200M COURSE A (LC) TIME: 16:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$75000

Larry says, "A small but quality field heads to the starter with all eyes on the impressive MR RAFFLES for leading trainer Steve Burridge. He is likely to start in the red but he has shown top-line qualities at his three Singapore starts and very hard to beat. While there is some good form elsewhere, including a nice run by BIG CHOICE in a similar affair, COLLECT THE CASH looks the only serious danger of an upset after resuming from some unplaced runs in BETTER THAN EVER group company. Aside from those two runs he has two wins and three seconds from five starts so has ability and pay to keep safe."

RACE 8: CLASS 5 - 1800M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 16:30 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000

Larry says, "A strong Class 5 Poly event with many horses taking in some nice form including last start winner, EQUIENCE. While he should go well FORMIDABLE QUEST looks the one that may have this race at his mercy dropping in Class after some nice recent efforts in better company. He does have an awkward gate to overcome but with any luck in running he should show his class and hard to beat. SHEN LI and TIAN LU both have good runs under their belts coming into this and after drawing nice inside barriers, should go well. For value keep TO BE OR NOT TO BE safe as he does go well for 3kg apprentice TH Koh."

RACE 9: COMMITTEE'S PRIZE (SG3) (3YO & ABOVE) (HCP) (RIDER ALLOWANCES NOT PERMITTED) - 1600M COURSE A (LC) TIME: 17:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$200000

Larry says, "A very good field on display in the feature of the day and at the handicap conditions it is a very open and interesting race. GHOZI and INTERCEPT have had some good recent duels and that should continue today. GHOZI was more than impressive in the Jumbo Jet behind BETTER THAN EVER and with the unbeaten champ not in the race today, GHOZI should be hard to beat. He is in nicely at the weights and Saimee back on board is also a bonus. ALWAYS CERTAIN is an exciting prospect who, thanks to running into BETTER THAN EVER in the Three-Year-Old series, is very under-rated and if race run to suit swoopers is a huge winning show. POWERFUL RULER, like INTERCEPT, is super honest and will be on the pace so every chance in what looks an even field. WAIKATO is the best horse but has the weight to carry and NEW ROSE WOOD should also be thereabouts fresh."

RACE 10: KRANJI STAKES C - 1000M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 17:35 PRIZE MONEY: S$75000

Larry says, "A terrific Poly sprint with four serious inner-track specialists all genuine winning chances. MAMAS LOVE, trained by Michael Clements and to be ridden by Barend Vorster, was very impressive giving the smart NORTHERN LION a big run for his money last time out and that form looks good enough to win this. She has an awakard gate to contend with but has the speedster, FUTURE BABY, drawn just inside her so a good run into the race is expected. DICTATOR was just too impressive winning with 4kg claimer Freddie Firdaus on board and will have plenty of admirers with Firdaus on board again from the inside gate. SMART EXCEL could be the danger first up with very nice recent trial under his belt. Good race and worth keeping the likes of TREASURE HUNTER and STREET RUFFIAN safe for exotics. "

RACE 11: CLASS 4 (1) - 1200M COURSE A (LC) TIME: 18:05 PRIZE MONEY: S$55000

Larry says, "ACE ARMANDO looks a very solid winning option to finish off the Singapore meeting on a good note. He won a similar event in fine fashion two starts back and did have excuses at his last run where he pulled up lame. His recent slick trial suggests he is back in very fine order and hard to beat. Wide open for the minors with LUCKY DIAMOND some hope on his good form of late. That form was on the Poly but he has ran well on the turf previously so might provide value. Elsewhere we are having a look at DORADO JOY first up after a spell and MAYBE YES MAYBE NO to show more than he has since his nice debut win. Market behind ACE ARMANDO will be a good guide for exotics."
