The Group 1 winning South African bred mare, Irridescence, has had her first winner from her first runner.
EXOTHERMIC (c, 2, Empire Maker--Irridescence (SAf) by Caesour), bred to be any kind, sported an average worktab for a barn which hits with about one of every 10 of its firsters, and was summarily dismissed as the 58-1 longest shot on the board in its debut. Settled slightly better than midfield while able to save all the ground, the Masson homebred eased out at the head of the lane, got through and went on to post a 2 3/4-length victory. Favored Big Blue Spirit (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) endured a trip filled with traffic and ran on well once clear to be second best.
Richard Masson's Green Lantern Stables acquired an interest in Irridescence following her victory in the 2005 G1 S A Fillies Classic. She added a win in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. in Hong Kong and made one U.S. appearance, a runner-up effort in the 2007 GI Beverly D. S. She did not face the starter again, and Exothermic is her first foal.
