Vodacom July winning jockey, Greg Cheyne, is off to Singapore after his Hong Kong stint ends on February 1. The likeable South African has been out of favour for some time in the harsh climes of Hong Kong after starting off his career on the tough circuit fairly well.
Hong Kong is not the easiest of places to ride, especially with the stiff competition for mounts and demands of the owners and trainers; one can soon find oneself out of favour in just a few rides.
Cheyne moves onto Singapore with a fresh attitude and approach and looks to be at home in the East, where he mentioned loving the lifestyle. He has admittedly never been afraid of hard work and Singapore should suit him well.
Cheyne has not requested an extention to his Hong Kong contract when the Licensing committe meets on January 13.
He had a record of 14 winners from 374 rides in his first season.
