Trade through Day Two of the 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale continued to be buoyant with 154 yearlings sold for $4.94 million on Monday.

74% of the yearlings offered today found new homes, while the clearance rate for Day One of the sale has risen to 85% thanks to Inglis’ Make An Offer Service on horses that passed-in through the ring.

Well grown athletic types are always on high demand at Classic and competition on the better class yearlings remained strong today with five lots making $100,000 or more.

“Classic has a great record of producing top class gallopers by young sires and it was very pleasing to see the progeny of first season sires such as Ready’s Image and Henrythenavigator being so sought after alongside the proven sires today”, said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.

BC3 Thoroughbreds was extended to $100,000 to secure Lincoln Farm’s Ready’s Image-Topsinga colt (Lot 177) and Brett Howard’s Randwick Bloodstock saw off all the competition to purchase the Henrythenavigator-Coffee Shop filly (Lot 315) for $90,000 from Amarina Farm.

The overall top price of the day fell to Crowning Stone’s Tale Of The Cat filly from Zakuro (Lot 211) which was knocked down to Les Bridge and Kim Harding for $120,000.

Leading stallion Choisir was selected from Classic as a yearling for just $55,000 before going onto Group One success at Flemington and Royal Ascot, and his progeny have again been popular at this year’s sale with 17 sold, led by Berkeley Park Stud’s filly from Tagine (Lot 157) which was picked up by Lockyer Thoroughbreds for $110,000.

Geoff Coady, the major owner of Inglis Banner and Inglis Nursery winner Diamond Earth, was back purchasing again today adding another four yearlings to the two purchased yesterday including Lot 267 a chestnut filly by Diamond Earth’s sire Choisir for $68,000.

Stephen Farley will be hoping that lightning strikes twice after securing a yearling at today’s sale for just $8,000, the same price he paid for multiple Group One winner Sincero at this sale in 2009.

“Vendors have done a fantastic job presenting their yearlings in brilliant fashion and with the knowledge that Group One winners have been purchased at all different levels at Classic it has been great to see so many loyal buyers from around the region back buying at the sale”, said Inglis Auctioneer Jonathan D’Arcy

With 89% of the catalogued yearlings being BOBS and BOBS Extra eligible New South Wales buyers have led the sale, but there has been good competition from all across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Horses passed in during today’s session are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.
