Hussonet colt stars on final day of Classic

The 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale came to a close at Newmarket today, with a colt by Hussonet stealing the show on a day when $3.9 million was added to the overall turnover of $12.8 million for the sale.

136 yearlings were sold today taking the final average price for the sale to $30,200 for the 424 lots sold.

“Online bidding has been well utilised by shrewd buyers purchasing up to $50,000 and it has been great to see so many people using our Make An Offer Service, leading to a notable increase in the clearance rates from Days One and Two as the sale progressed today”, said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.

Arrowfield Stud’s Hussonet-Monte Rosa colt (Lot 560) had plenty of admirers during inspections in Sydney over the last week and after some spirited bidding was knocked down to Mauro Poletti for $140,000, the top price for the 2012 Classic Sale.

Trainers and owners who had previously purchased top class gallopers from the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale certainly made their presence felt on the third and final day of this year's sale.

Matthew Smith selected this seasons G1 VRC Myer Classic winner Hurtle Myrtle from the first crop of Dane Shadow at the 2009 Classic Sale for just $55,000 and the Warwick Farm trainer was back at Newmarket today purchasing fillies from the first crop of Astronomer Royal (Lot 471) and Myboycharlie (Lot 525) for $65,000 and $56,000 respectively.

Anthony Cummings has had much success buying from Classic, such as Inglis Banner & Inglis Nursery winner Diamond Earth, and the Randwick conditioner picked up her close relation from the draft of Golden Grove for $62,000 today a colt by Danehill Dancer from La Madeline (Lot 485).

Local trainers had plenty of competition from interstate and overseas throughout the sale with 8 yearlings heading to Korea, 13 to New Zealand, 70 to Victoria and 21 to Western Australia.

Horses passed in during the last three days are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.

Focus now moves south to the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, the sales source of undefeated superstar Black Caviar, which will be conducted over four days from February 27 to March 1 this year.
