MUSIR TO RETIRE TO COOLMORE IN 2012

The stallion roster at Coolmore Australia will be further bolstered in 2012 by the presence of Gr.1 winning two-year-old and leading international performer Musir. A six-time group stakes winner, Musir is the highest rated son of Redoute’s Choice to date according to Timeform, who describe him as ‘a well-made horse and a high-class performer with a good turn of foot’.

As a two-year-old the Mike de Kock trained colt stamped himself a performer right out of the top drawer when romping to a 3 ½ length score in the 1400m Gr.1 Golden Horseshoe, South Africa’s premier contest for juveniles. That dominant win saw him crowned champion two-year-old of South Africa and earned him a trip to the prestigious Dubai Carnival.

It was in Dubai as a three year old that Musir announced himself an international star, running up a hat-trick of impressive wins that included the Gr.2 UAE Derby and the Gr.3 UAE 2,000 Guineas. He went on to claim further wins in top company in Europe in the Gr.2 Topkapi Trophy over a mile and back in Dubai in the Gr.2 Al Rashidiya Stakes and his record to date includes eight wins from just sixteen starts. Only twice in his career has he finished outside the first three placings.

Coolmore Australia's Tom Magnier commented; ‘This horse is a rare commodity indeed. He’s a Gr.1 winning two-year-old colt by an outstanding stallion in Redoute’s Choice, who is proving a more than useful source of sire sons. He is and always was a particularly good looking colt and of course we know him very well having bred him at the farm. I believe that he is a horse that will really appeal to commercial breeders across Australia’.

Trainer Mike De Kock was full of praise for Musir, ‘It’s a pleasure to train a colt like him and he’s just about the best colt I’ve had since Horse Chestnut. He was a champion two-year-old but he improved with racing and is remarkably tough with a tremendous constitution. He has a wicked turn of foot and his ability to quicken sharply in his races marks him down as a colt of the very highest class.

A fee for Musir will be announced at a later date - COOLMORE
