PREVIEW GREYVILLE (DAY/NIGHT) 5 MAY 2012

PREVIEW:GREYVILLE (DAY/NIGHT) - 5 MAY 2012

Scratchings up to date as at 18h00 Friday 4 May 2012.

RACE 1:Maiden Juvenile Plate (F) 1400m Bend

ANEEFA (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) makes her debut. Is a well-bred Australian first timer. Watch the betting. FLITTER  (Gavin Van Zyl/Brandon Lerena) has had two consecutive close up seconds in her two starts to date. Will be running on. COPY CAT (Dennis Drier/Alec Forbes) made a good debut last time. Dennis Drier's horses rarely win on debut but go very close in their second starts. The Australian bred, YOU'RE AMAZING (Charles Laird/Anton Marcus) makes her debut. ARABIAN PRINCESS should improve on a fair debut.

SELECTIONS: 1st - ANEEFA * (1); 2nd - FLITTER (5); 3rd - COPY CAT (4); 4th - YOU'RE AMAZING (9); 5th - ARABIAN PRINCESS (2)

RACE 2:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1400m Bend

MOULIN NOIR (Deon Visser/Anton Marcus) enjoys this C & D and has been a consistent earner. Has found a good finish in both of her recent starts. INDIGO CHILD (Duncan Howells/MJ Byleveld) ran a cracker last time when improving by almost eleven lengths. She was flying up late this C & D. Should go close again. REIGNING QUEEN (Brown & Robinson/Keagan Latham) did not show last time. Chance on penultimate effort, which was also this C & D. ROYAL LADY appears to be improving. Bernard Fayd'Herbe rides for Dennis Bosch. MISS KITTY (Brown & Robinson) has had two fair runs. Apprentice claim of 2.5kg may help.

SELECTIONS: 1st - MOULIN NOIR * (3); 2nd - INDIGO CHILD (7); 3rd - REIGNING QUEEN (1); 4th - ROYAL LADY (6); 5th - MISS KITTY (9)

RACE 3:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1000m Bend

RAVE MELODY was just pipped into second last time when racing this C & D for the first time. That was her best run in five starts. In five starts she has finished second on three occasions. Anthony Delpech rides again. DIVA'S DAUGHTER (Justin Snaith/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) made a fair debut in Cape Town when running into fourth last time. Look for improvement. SEXY AND FREE (Deon Visser/Anton Marcus) makes her debut. Could be anything. The betting ought to be your best guide. PLATINUM FOX has steady form and she was running on late last time. Runs better at this track.

SELECTIONS: 1st - RAVE MELODY * (1); 2nd - DIVA'S DAUGHTER (11); 3rd - CAPE VESTA (2); 4th - SEXY AND FREE (10); 5th - PLATINUM FOX (3)

RACE 4:MR 70 Hcp (F & M) 2000m Bend

CELADORE has very good form. She is a versatile filly who can race handy, up front or off the pace. If she is going to be setting the pace she could hold on with an apprentice up claiming 2.5kg off the 55.5kg she would normally have had to carry in this race. MISTY MORN (Duncan Howells/Keagan Latham) ran a very good post maiden last time. She stayed on well that day. She won her maiden this C & D. FLUTTER BYE is never far back and must have a small chance. SPONDULICS (Duncan Howells/Piere Strydom) may improve this extra trip. Has been running on over shorter. OAK RIDGE did not show in her post maiden last time. Won her maiden impressively this C & D.

SELECTIONS: 1st - CELADORE * (13); 2nd - MISTY MORN (1); 3rd - FLUTTER BYE (8); 4th - SPONDULICS (10); 5th - OAK RIDGE (2)

RACE 5:
MR 72 Hcp 1300m Bend

CATALECTRIC did not show last time but that was over 1600m and he could be better suited to the shorter races. That was also in a MR 91 race which is way above that of this race. STOLEN DESTINY has placed second twice in two runs this C & D. Chance if running on again. HAIL THE KING (Yogas Govender/Anton Marcus) took eight runs to win his maiden. He won that very impressively by well over four lengths last time. Respect. NITRO NORI is never far back. Anthony Delpech rides. NECK OR NOTHING may be finding form again.

SELECTIONS: 1st - CATALECTRIC * (3); 2nd - STOLEN DESTINY (6); 3rd - HAIL THE KING (9); 4th - NITRO NORI (14); 5th - NECK OR NOTHING (5)

RACE 6:Grade 2 Korea Racing Authority Fillies Guineas (R250 000) 1600m Bend

BAMBINA STRIPES (Dennis Drier/Alec Forbes) has won both of her starts over the distance. She finished well to win the Fillies Guineas at Turffontein last time. One thing is guaranteed and that is that she will be finishing well and with two important scratching already, this race is very much for the taking. BERMUDA SLOOP (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) finished over three lengths behind PRINCESS VICTORIA in the Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth a few months back. We all know how good she is. She did win her last start which was this C & D when drawing off late. AMANEE (Mike De Kock/Derreck David) has never fulfilled her promise. Can never ignore. TAJMEEL (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) won her last two. Her second win was this C & D and she really looks to be classy. To see her win would not come as any surprise. The only reason I have not tipped her to come first is because she has yet to race above a MR 72. REASON TO BELIEVE was not disgraced when finishing a close up fourth to TRINITY HOUSE in a Grade 3 at Scottsville last time. Anton Marcus rides.

SELECTIONS: 1st - BAMBINA STRIPES * (2); 2nd - BERMUDA SLOOP (7); 3rd - AMANEE (6); 4th - TAJMEEL (12); 5th - REASON TO BELIEVE (5)

RACE 7:Grade 2 Korea Racing Authority Guineas (R500 000) 1600m Bend

With the scratching of DIVINE JET (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) this could be a match race between VARIETY CLUB (Joey Ramsden/Anton Marcus) and the current ante post favourite for the Durban July, JACKSON (Brett Crawford/Karis Teetan). VARIETY CLUB won the Cape Guineas in impressive style last month. They have met before and that day JACKSON won the Derby at Kenilworth by two lengths. At level weights one would expect JACKSON to win again but he appears to be better suited to further. With that in mind I have opted to VARIETY CLUB. Nevertheless, whatever the outcome, it should be a cracker. ASTRO NEWS has raced against some top sorts. Piere Strydom rides for Greg Ennion, one of the most underrated trainers in Cape Town, if not in the country as well. UNANNOUNCED lost his first race last time in his seventh start. Still has impressive form but has yet to meet this quality of field. GOLDEN CHATEAU (Mike De Kock/Derreck David) should not be ignored. One can never ignore a Mike De Kock runner in any race, especially a feature race! Is distance suited but has yet to run at Greyville.

SELECTIONS: 1st - VARIETY CLUB ** (2); 2nd - JACKSON (1); 3rd - ASTRO NEWS (5); 4th - UNANNOUNCED (4); 5th - GOLDEN CHATEAU (6)

RACE 8:
Grade 2 Drill Hall Stakes (R300 000) 1400m Bend

DEPARDIEU (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) was a very impressive winner of a Grade 3 event at Scottsville last time. Has beaten GIMMETHEGREENLIGHT in Cape Town. Is well drawn, stable and jockey are in top form. Has an excellent chance. KAVANAGH (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) has won for from six starts this distance. Finished fourth to DANCEWITHTHEDEVIL in a Grade 1 at Turffontein last time. He could be better suited to this company. TALES OF BRAVERY (Vaughan Marshall/MJ Byleveld) finished only two lengths behind IGUGU in the J & B Met last time. The blinkers go on. Has won this distance and must have a shout. CHESALON (Mike Bass/Piere Strydom) has not run since the Queens Plate in early January. May prefer further. Consider with Piere Strydom up and the Mike Bass yard. CAPTAIN'S SECRET (Mike Bass/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) tends to fade late. Has not won in quite a while.

SELECTIONS: 1st - DEPARDIEU * (14); 2nd - KAVANAGH (2); 3rd - TALES OF BRAVERY (1); 4th - CHESALON (3); 5th - CAPTAIN'S SECRET (6)

RACE 9:Maiden Plate 1600m Bend

BIG CAT DIARY (Glen Puller/Anton Marcus) and he could be looking for the extra distance. WILLIAM CONQUEST (Sean Tarry/Piere Strydom) is in good form and should be involved with the finish. SOUL MATE (Dennis Drier/Stuart Randolph) ran a cracker last time. The extra should suit and on the evidence of his two runs to date, must have a very good chance. QUICK OF FOOT (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) showed good improvement last time. Not one to put one's house on! DAES DAE'MAR also improved last time. Has placed this C & D when running on well last time. Apprentice claim of 2.5kg should assist.

SELECTIONS: 1st - BIG CAT DIARY * (2); 2nd - WILLIAM CONQUEST (3); 3rd - SOUL MATE (9); 4th - QUICK OF FOOT (1); 5th - DAES DAE'MAR (4)

RACE 10:MR 76 Hcp 1600m Bend

CHISLER (Deon Visser/Sean Cormack) rarely runs a bad race and on form looks to be the one to beat. EXCEPTIONAL DREAMS (Sean Tarry/Piere Strydom) was not disgraced in his post maiden run last time. Only win was at his only start over the distance at Turffontein. SENOR GRISE (Yogas Govender/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) was running on last time. Has fair form but is drawn wide. BARNEY BARNATO is never far back. Will be running on. Anton Marcus rides again. SOLERA (Duncan Howells/MJ Byleveld) had to work hard to win his latest race, which was over this C & D. Must have a chance in this field.

SELECTIONS: 1st - CHISLER * (1); 2nd - EXCEPTIONAL DREAMS (6); 3rd - SENOR GRISE (3); 4th - BARNEY BARNATO (2); 5th - SOLERA (4)
