The proposed international campaign and prospect of racing against the best has all fallen away for the Hassan Adam's owned Gimmethegreenlight as the Justin Snaith trained galloper has been retired to stud after a minor ligament injury sustained after his last run in Johannesburg.
Sent off as a firm favourite for that Group 1 event, he disappointed fans and the stable. Varfontein Stud and Johnn Freeman have secured the rights to his stud career and stallion management respectively.
Varsfontein have also bought a large share in the horse to acquire his stud career. Described as the the best horse he has trained, Snaith reckons he will be sending his own mares to the stallion.
Gimmethegreenlight is the highest rated 3 year old in training at 117. His Queen's Plate win ranks as his best achievement, a race only he has won as a 3 year old in the past 39 years.
No stud fee as been announced as yet.
