PREVIEW:SCOTTSVILLE - 20 JUNE 2012
Scratchings up to date as at 16h30 Tuesday 19 June 2012.
RACE 1:Maiden Juvenile Plate 1000m Straight
Another son of TRIPPI makes his debut. TRIPLE PLAY could be the one to beat, especially seeing that Anton Marcus rides this first timer. Keep an eye on the betting. FACING FURY (Dennis Drier/Sean Cormack) has had two fair runs. Should win his maiden soon. ARGYLE BAY is a son of SILVANO making his debut. The betting should be as good a guide as any. BLACK LORD also makes his debut. SMARTELLI (Dennis Drier) made a very moderate debut last time. Should improve second run.
SELECTIONS: 1st - TRIPLE PLAY * (9); 2nd - FACING FURY (4); 3rd - ARGYLE BAY (2); 4th - BLACK LORD (3); 5th - SMARTELLI (8)
RACE 2:Juvenile Plate (F) 1400m Bend
The betting on the first timer, TAYBA (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) could be what one needs to keep an eye on in this race. ARABIAN PRINCESS (Gavin Van Zyl) showed good improvement in her second start last time. Should be in the shake up. YELLOW CARD (Charles Laird/Anton Marcus) ran a fair post maiden last time. Must have a chance on the experience she has. I like the look of the first timer, LYFORD CAY (Gavin Van Zyl). LADY DE WINTER won her maiden at the second attempt last time. One to respect as she did run on strongly that day after a sluggish start in which she lost a length.
SELECTIONS: 1st - TAYBA * (3); 2nd - ARABIAN PRINCESS (1); 3rd - YELLOW CARD (4); 4th - LYFORD CAY (7); 5th - LADY DE WINTER (2)
RACE 3:Juvenile Plate 1400m Bend
INDABA MY CHILDREN (Charles Laird) has run on four occasions for two good wins and two very close up seconds. Anton Marcus doesn't ride but an apprentice claiming 1½kg has the ride which should bring him in with a chance as he was set to carry top weight of 60kg. Won over the distance at Greyville last time. FLY ME OVER (Glen Kotzen/Sean Cormack) was not disgraced in his second start last time which just happened to be in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion. He was slow off but ran on really well to finish a decent sixth. His win on debut two runs back was over 1200m but this distance should suit more. SKYWALK LUKE (Charles Laird/Anton Marcus) is a son of TRIPPI but he won at the third attempt last time. One has to respect with Anton Marcus riding. LIVING WITH HEART (Weiho Marwing) won on debut last time. Makes his KZN debut. I AM WILL could be improving.
SELECTIONS: 1st - INDABA MY CHILDREN * (1); 2nd - FLY ME OVER (2); 3rd - SKYWALK LUKE (5); 4th - LIVING WITH HEART (4); 5th - I AM WILL (3)
RACE 4:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1200m Straight
With the scratching of WILD HONEY, this has left the door for REGAL BREEZE, with Anton Marcus riding for Glen Puller, to be the best bet of the day. On form looks difficult to beat. Is able to set a good pace or run on. NANDI (Mike De Kock) makes her debut. The betting should be the best guide. Bred in Australia and was bought for R800 000. OLE OLE runs for the twelfth occasion. Can fill a placing. WARDANDI GIRL (Pat Lunn/Karis Teetan) makes her debut. Stable is in good form. Respect. Money chance. ICE LADY has shown nothing but there are only six runners in the race! Stable companion, SHEIK YOUR LULA has even worse form, if that is possible!
SELECTIONS: 1st - REGAL BREEZE ** (1); 2nd - NANDI (7); 3rd - OLE OLE (3); 4th - WARDANDI GIRL (8); 5th - ICE LADY (4)
RACE 5:Maiden Plate 2400m Bend
CAPTAIN CHARLIE (Pat Lunn/Karis Teetan) showed very good improvement last time when running on. Jockey/trainer combination in good form. SWING THE SWORD is never too far back. Tries this distance for the first time. Has Anthony Delpech in the irons. Definite chance. SHEIKINA may also benefit from the extra distance. Jockey Donovan Dillon claims 2½kg and is very well weighted. CHICAGO FIRE (Kumaran Naidoo) has more to find for the win. Fades badly. MY SPACE has run on three occasions and has shown improvement in each subsequent run.
SELECTIONS: 1st - CAPTAIN CHARLIE * (1); 2nd - SWING THE SWORD (2); 3rd - SHEIKINA (12); 4th - CHICAGO FIRE (3); 5th - MY SPACE (4)
RACE 6:Graduation Plate 1400m Bend
WHITELINE FEVER (Sean Tarry/Anton Marcus) is so well weighted that he looks to be so difficult to beat. He has faced far stronger but only carries 60kg. At best will be running on. MORE OF ME (Yogas Govender/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) has nice form and could make a race of it. Stable and jockey doing very well in KZN. BESUGO (Dennis Drier/Sean Cormack) has only run four times for two wins. Won a MR 90 well last time. This is harder but respect all the same. GENERAL SHERMAN (Sean Tarry) has good form, but also against weaker. Expect to see jockey Muzi Yeni go to the front in this race. SILVER AGE (Jeff Freedman/Anthony Delpech) returned to the track last time after a ten-month rest. Will be fitter this afternoon. Was not disgraced in the Golden Horse way back in July, two runs back.
SELECTIONS: 1st - WHITELINE FEVER * (1); 2nd - MORE OF ME (3); 3rd - BESUGO (2); 4th - GENERAL SHERMAN (6); 5th - SILVER AGE (4)
RACE 7:MR 72 Apprentice Hcp 1950m Bend
PARADISE SQUARE (Mike De Kock) was impressive in her maiden win last time. Should go close again this afternoon. JOIE'S WINTER (Yogas Govender/Donovan Dillon) did not show under lights last time. Watch for improvement this time. Stable companion, FAIRE SILVANO, has good form over shorter. Should relish the extra trip. Has been running on well. CELADORE has consistent form and should be right there on form. PUTINKA was running on last time when showing a welcome return to form.
SELECTIONS: 1st - PARADISE SQUARE * (1); 2nd - JOIE'S WINTER (6); 3rd - FAIRE SILVANO (5); 4th - CELADORE (4); 5th - PUTINKA (3)
RACE 8:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1600m Bend
JOY improved by over six lengths last time over an improved run in her penultimate was running on last time despite running wide in to the straight. A QUEEN'S TALE ran on well last time. Anthony Delpech rides but yard is badly off form. Should do well this race with this horse. SACRED ROSE is making slow improvement. Runs well this C & D. SUCCESS is never too far back. Money chance. CAUSE FOR CONCERN (Dennis Drier/Sean Cormack) has done nothing in both starts to date. may begin to improve.
SELECTIONS: 1st - JOY * (3); 2nd - A QUEEN'S TALE (1); 3rd - SACRED ROSE (8); 4th - SUCCESS (4); 5th - CAUSE FOR CONCERN (10)
BEST BET: RACE 4 - NUMBER 1 REGAL BREEZE (11/20)
