PREVIEW:SCOTTSVILLE - SUNDAY 22 JULY 2012
Scratchings up to date as at 17h00 Friday 21 July 2012.
RACE 1:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1200m Straight
Watch the betting on the first timer EMALIYAMI (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech). Is well bred. The form horses are QUEEN'S COURT, ROSIE THE REBEL and OLE OLE. All three of them have the form to win with QUEEN'S COURT and OLE OLE more likely to be running on at the end. OLE OLE is well suited to this C & D. There is a toss up for fifth between STUCK UP and TIGER BLISS.
SELECTIONS: 1st - EMALIYAMI * (10); 2nd - QUEEN'S COURT (14); 3rd - ROSIE THE REBEL (2); 4th - OLE OLE (1); 5th - STUCK UP (3)
RACE 2:Maiden Juvenile Plate 1600m Bend
SNAPPY LAD looks promising and in both starts he has run on. Should go close to winning on form alone. THE KING AND I was quite a distance behind THE HANGMAN on debut last time. Anton Marcus has the ride. Expect improvement. BLACK GAMBIT showed excellent improvement in his second start last time. Should mount a strong challenge. MONTELUPO should be doing his best work late and his three runs have been good. BUFFALO RUN did not show on debut last time. May improve. The balance would even surprise if they were to place.
SELECTIONS: 1st - SNAPPY LAD * (8); 2nd - THE KING AND I (9); 3rd - BLACK GAMBIT (2); 4th - MONTELUPO (6); 5th - BUFFALO RUN (4)
RACE 3:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1400m Bend
THEMIS (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) looks difficult to oppose in this field. Both runs have been good and she was finishing like an express train over 1200m last time. Just failed by half-a-length that day. MAKE ME MONEY was running on last time with Anthony Delpech aboard. This afternoon Anton Marcus has the ride. HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE is never far back and stays on. SWIFT BOW improved in her second start last time. Tries further this afternoon. Keep an eye on the Mike De Kock first timer, PERFECT ROCK.
SELECTIONS: 1st - THEMIS ** (10); 2nd - MAKE ME MONEY (3); 3rd - HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE (2); 4th - SWIFT BOW (9); 5th - PERFECT ROCK (7)
RACE 4:Maiden Plate 1200m Straight
KING NEPTUNE (Dennis Drier/Sean Cormack) has had two very close up seconds in his only two starts. looks ready to crack his maiden at the third attempt. One of these seconds was this C & D. KING TUT made a very good debut last time when totally unfancied in the betting at 50/1. Unlikely to start at those odds this afternoon. Two first timers that should be seriously taken into consideration are CANNON (Mike De Kock/Anthony Delpech) and CAPETOWN NOIR (Dean Kannemeyer/Anton Marcus). HIGHLAND FLING has had a couple of good runs and has placed second this C & D. Tends to fade late.
SELECTIONS: 1st - KING NEPTUNE * (9); 2nd - KING TUT (10); 3rd - CANNON (12); 4th - CAPETOWN NOIR (13); 5th - HIGHLAND FLING (1)
RACE 5:MR 82 Hcp 1200m Straight
ROMEO BRAVO ran very well in his post maiden last time against slightly stronger. Won his maiden this C & D on debut two runs back. Will be running on. SHANGHAI KID (Mike Bass/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) was not disgraced in the Thekwini last time. This is must easier. Should be right there. ALBARAKAH (Glen Kotzen/Anton Marcus) has the blinkers on this afternoon. Good form but this looks to be harder and he is not well weighted. MATTEO is in good form and can earn. WARWICKADALE has good C & D form.
SELECTIONS: 1st - ROMEO BRAVO * (2); 2nd - SHANGHAI KID (5); 3rd - ALBARAKAH (1); 4th - MATTEO (3); 5th - WARWICKADALE (6)
RACE 6:Apprentice MR 78 Hcp 1400m Bend
SUNCAT took nineteen runs to win his maiden and then followed his next two starts with two close up seconds. In good form and can go close in a weak field. SOUL MATE (Dennis Drier) won his maiden very impressively last time. That was his third start and he can follow up. MINING PROSPECT makes his KZN debut. Won in Gauteng last time. May need the run. GOLDEN SLED is distance suited. Faced slightly stronger last time. QUINTELLA will be running on.
SELECTIONS: 1st - SUNCAT * (7); 2nd - SOUL MATE (3); 3rd - MINING PROSPECT (2); 4th - GOLDEN SLED (1); 5th - QUINTELLA (6)
RACE 7:Off To Stud Handicap (Listed) (R150 000) 1800m Bend
CHECCETTI (Mike De Kock/Kevin Shea) has raced against far stronger and against males. She is unbeaten over the distance and should have a very good winning chance. Her biggest danger could come in the form of her stable companion, ATLANTIC OAK, with Anthony Delpech aboard. May prefer further but don't leave out. QUEEN'S COMMAND (Glen Kotzen/Anton Marcus) is well suited by the distance but prefer, perhaps, at Greyville or Clairwood. FEEL MY LOVE (Greg Ennion) has won her last three starts. Has yet to run at this track but all three wins came over further. In form she may still go close. SYDNEY'S GIRL has more to find in this field but has fair form.
SELECTIONS: 1st - CHECCETTI * (3); 2nd - ATLANTIC OAK (2); 3rd - QUEEN'S COMMAND (1); 4th - FEEL MY LOVE (5); 5th - SYDNEY'S GIRL (6)
RACE 8:MR 99 Hcp 1200m Straight
SPORTS COACH (Charles Laird/Anton Marcus) has only won over the distance. Will be running on. Ran well in the Durban Merchants at Greyville last time and will be running on. MONSIEUR DUPONT (Mike Bass/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) is ½kg better off than SPORTS COACH for 0.75 length beating by SPORTS COACH when they last met in the Merchants. Should go close again this afternoon. WILD TYPE (Gavin Van Zyl/Brandon Lerena) ran on strongly last time to win by almost three lengths. This is tougher and could battle at the weights. POSH JOSH enjoys this trip and Gavin Lerena rides for Yogas Govender). Stable companion, LIZARD'S PASSION is very well suited to this C & D and must have a shout.
SELECTIONS: 1st - SPORTS COACH * (4); 2nd - MONSIEUR DUPONT (3); 3rd - WILD TYPE (1); 4th - POSH JOSH (2); 5th - LIZARD'S PASSION (6)
RACE 9:MR 73 Hcp (F & M) 1200m Straight
ZEMFIRA (Sean Tarry/Anton Marcus) did not show over 1400m last time. Looks to be better over 1200m. Will be running on and must go close. SILENT APPROACH (Gary Alexander/Gavin Lerena) has steady post maiden form and this could be a fitting end to an afternoon where both Anton and Gavin attempt to gain supremacy in the Jockey Championship, in what should be an interesting final week of the season! PREAMBLE (Pat Lunn) will go close with an apprentice claiming 4kg. Ran a good post maiden against stronger last time. AUTUMN LEAVES (Alec Laird/JP van der Merwe) is improving again. Anthony Delpech partners DRUMADOON again after his win last time. Has a chance of repeating.
SELECTIONS: 1st - ZEMFIRA * (6); 2nd - SILENT APPROACH (1); 3rd - PREAMBLE (2); 4th - AUTUMN LEAVES (9); 5th - DRUMADOON (11)
