PREVIEW KENILWORTH 18 AUGUST 2012

PREVIEW:KENILWORTH - SATURDAY 18 AUGUST 2012

Scratchings up to date as at 19h30 Friday 17 August 2012.

RACE 1:Maiden Plate 1200m Straight

Watch the betting on the first timer, NIGHT TRIP (Mike Bass/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) (357/100). Stable companion, AMBASSADOR REX made a good debut when unfancied last time. Should give another good account of himself. WILMINGTON (Justin Snaith/Felix Coetzee) and THE PROFESSOR have similar maiden form, both fade late but must have a chance in this field. Another first timer to consider is SIR ROBERT (Brett Crawford).

SELECTIONS: 1st - NIGHT TRIP * (13); 2nd - AMBASSADOR REX (6); 3rd - WILMINGTON (2); 4th - THE PROFESSOR (1); 5th - SIR ROBERT (15)

RACE 2:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1200m Straight

EQUINA (Justin Snaith/Felix Coetzee) (357/100) should be better this afternoon as she steps up in trip. Debut run was very good indeed. Looks a bright prospect. PRINCESS SALME (Joey Ramsden/Glen Hatt) made a good debut this C & D. Will fight it out along with GLAMOUR (Brett Crawford) who was running on when making her debut. The Fort Wood first timer, GYPSY MADONNA (Mike Bass/Karl Neisius) cost R1 350 000. Keep an eye on the betting. POLLY PORCH was running on when making her debut last time. Watch for improvement.

SELECTIONS: 1st - EQUINA * (7); 2nd - PRINCESS SALME (15); 3rd - GLAMOUR (1); 4th - GYPSY MADONNA (10); 5th - POLLY PORCH (14)

RACE 3:Maiden Plate 1200m Straight

GOOI MIELIES (3/1) has does practically everything since making his debut nine runs ago, except win! Chance if running on. Another Trippi first timer makes his debut this afternoon. Keep an eye on the betting on MUSSOORIE (Mike Bass/Bernard Fayd'Herbe). TOLD YOU SO may improve on a decent debut last time. SOUL SACRIFICE (Justin Snaith/Felix Coetzee) is improving with each run. EPIC BOOM (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) is sure to improve on a fair debut run last time.

SELECTIONS: 1st - GOOI MIELIES * (2); 2nd - MUSSOORIE (13); 3rd - TOLD YOU SO (18); 4th - SOUL SACRIFICE (4); 5th - EPIC BOOM (6)

RACE 4:Maiden Plate 1400m Bend

MALTESE FALCON (Vaughan Marshall/Aldo Domeyer) (11/2) ran his best race last time when just being pipped late this C & D. If repeating, should be the one to beat. DYNASTY'S SECRET has four seconds to his name from fourteen runs. Has had his chances but do not ignore. Runs on well. NEARTIC DANCER (Mike Bass/Karl Neisius) is making good progress and could be a contender. MOUNTAIN RUSH (Vaughan Marshall/MJ Byleveld) showed good improvement last time when racing this C & D. Must have a shout. DOMANI has consistency but trainer and jockey a bit off form for now.

SELECTIONS: 1st - MALTESE FALCON * (5); 2nd - DYNASTY'S SECRET (2); 3rd - NEARTIC DANCER (8); 4th - MOUNTAIN RUSH (13); 5th - DOMANI (1)

RACE 5:Maiden Plate (F & M) 1500m Bend

I like the look of SCHISM (Joey Ramsden/Glen Hatt) (66/10) who was running on late when making her debut over shorter last time. No doubt she will improve. FREE AS A BIRD (Brett Crawford) showed good improvement last time over 1400m. Chance if staying the extra 100m. UNSOLICITED make excellent improvement last time, but that was at Durbanville. Good chance on that run if repeating at this track. BEULAH has steady form along with EDEN ROSE.

SELECTIONS: 1st - SCHISM * (16); 2nd - FREE AS A BIRD (11); 3rd - UNSOLICITED (9); 4th - BEULAH (1); 5th - EDEN ROSE (2)

RACE 6:MR 78 Hcp 1200m Straight

HARRY HALL (12/1) has good and consistent form but he has been moving between CT and PE and this could take its toll. On form must have a good chance. GAME OVER has improved since moving from Gauteng. Well suited to this C & D. VAUCLAIR (Joey Ramsden/Glen Hatt) won impressively on debut last time. Chance if repeating and not needing to confirm. LITTLE PEARL (Justin Snaith) ran well in his post maiden last time. Loves this C & D. HERE I AM showed very good improvement last time.

SELECTIONS: 1st - HARRY HALL * (2); 2nd - GAME OVER (5); 3rd - VAUCLAIR (13); 4th - LITTLE PEARL (11); 5th - HERE I AM (7)

RACE 7:MR 78 Hcp  (F & M) 1200m Straight

ENCHANTING CATHY (Mike Bass/Karl Neisius) (66/10) drops in class. Has won this C & D and looks to be improving again. FIRST FAVOUR has good post maiden form but is battling for win number two! VARIETY STAR (Justin Snaith/Glen Hatt) may need to confirm her maiden win at the second attempt last time. WOLF'S GIRL is improving but only run over the distance was disappointing. Give another chance over 1200m. GINOCLOCK (Justin Snaith) won her maiden at the second attempt last time. Looks to be promising. Apprentice claim of 4kg could help.

SELECTIONS: 1st - ENCHANTING CATHY * (2); 2nd - FIRST FAVOUR (13); 3rd - VARIETY STAR (17); 4th - WOLF'S GIRL (3); 5th - GINOCLOCK (5)

RACE 8:Grade 3 Champagne Stakes (WFA) (R138 000) 1200m Straight

COMTESSE DUBOIS (15/10) (Justin Snaith/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) did not have the best of KZN seasons. Has very good form in Cape Town and will be running on. Was not disgraced when finishing three lengths behind EBONY FLYER in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint at Scottsville last time. On that run must have a shout. Stable companion, OCEAN'S SWIFT, with Felix Coetzee up, loves this C & D. Has good feature race form. Could upstage her stable mate! Gauteng raider with the Louis Goosen yard, JOLLY POPPINS, could be an interesting runner. Finished just over three lengths behind COMTESSE DUBOIS in the SA Fillies Sprint last time. She is 1½kg better off. Should finish closer this afternoon. JEAN'S PRIDE has found useful form in her last two starts. CAPTAIN'S LEGEND does not have the best of form but could place at best, especially with Karl Neisius in the saddle for Vaughan Marshall who will be looking to repeat his very good KZN Winter Season form in the feature races.

SELECTIONS: 1st - COMTESSE DUBOIS * (1); 2nd - OCEAN'S SWIFT (4); 3rd - JOLLY POPPINS (5); 4th - JEAN'S PRIDE (3); 5th - CAPTAIN'S LEGEND (2)

RACE 9:MR 76 Hcp (F & M) 1700m Bend

IT'S EXCITING (Joey Ramsden/Glen Hatt)  (66/10) ran against far stronger in a feature race last time. Was not disgraced. Should be the one to beat. PAN AMM (Mike Bass) is in very good form but is drawn widest of all. Did overcome the widest of draws at the far tighter Durbanville track last time when winning there over 1600m. Should be ok this time as well. ESTELLE (Justin Snaith/Felix Coetzee) was returning from a four month lay off last time. Will be fitter this afternoon. GUSTING (Justin Snaith/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) has a chance if finding a good finish. tends to be a bit sluggish late on. LADY DAYLIGHT has a chance on an improved latest effort, at Durbanville though.

SELECTIONS: 1st - IT'S EXCITING * (4); 2nd - PAN AMM (7); 3rd - ESTELLE (3); 4th - GUSTING (5); 5th - LADY DAYLIGHT (2)

RACE 10:Maiden Plate 1700m Bend

MOON SHOT (62/10) has good form over 1600m. Runs on. Should see out the extra. SANSHAAWES has the form to win. Was sent off as favourite last time. Could crack it this afternoon. DISCO AL (Joey Ramsden/Glen Hatt) showed good improvement last time. Chance on that run. BARREL 'N BUTT (Justin Snaith/Bernard Fayd'Herbe) is never far off them. Has a good shout. LAGO CUOMO (Dean Kannemeyer/Karl Neisius) showed good pace last time. Was bumped but that was at Durbanville. Could make amends.

SELECTIONS: 1st - MOON SHOT * (1); 2nd - SANSHAAWES (8); 3rd - DISCO AL (9); 4th - BARREL 'N BUTT (2); 5th -LAGO CUOMO (3)
