SA's best aim for Royal Ascot sprint showpiece

Three South African bred millionaires have been nominated to compete in one of Europe’s top sprint events – the Gp1 Darley July Cup.All of Kavanagh, Shea Shea and Soft Falling Rain have been entered in the July Cup by trainer Mike de Kock. All three tasted success in Dubai this year.Soft Falling Rain, who was a R350 000 buy at the 2011 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is unbeaten in seven starts to date. (Image DRC, Watkins)

The Highlands Farm bred son of National Assembly is the only 3yo ever to have won the Gr2 Godolphin Mile, and he could possibly go straight to Newmarket. The brilliant Shea Shea, who took both the Listed Meydan Sprint and Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai, is likely to go for Royal Ascot prior to the July Cup. The Klawervlei bred son of National Emblem was a R550 000 buy at the 2009 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.Tiger Ridge’s son Kavanagh looks likely to race next in the Gr1 Krisflyer Sprint. Bred and owned by Wilgerbosdrift, Kavanagh also captured a race in Dubai before running a fair sixth in the Gr1 Golden Sheehan.
