Caryn Bowie is an equine artist we have online with us this month. Many of our readers may have noticed her beautiful art via the banner link we have on Sahorseracing.com to her website. Here's her story..
I worked in racing all my life I was assistant trainer in Kzn for a few years to Clodagh Shaw, Mike Azzie, Charles Laird and Dennis Bosch before traveling to the States and Australia. My real dream though, was to be a jockey but they had only just started to accept girls in the Jockey Academy and I was too old and on the tall side, however, I did get to ride in about 30 Amateur and Ladies races with several wins. In 2003 (with the help of Mick Goss and Charles Laird) I was very fortunate to get a job in Dubai as an exercise rider, with Godolphin, I also spent time in Newmarket, England and New York. I stayed with Godolphin for six years.
I had a long break from art (as in producing my own work) from 2000 and have just started again a year ago. In this period I studied at The Art Institute of America online Division.
The most recent horse I have done is Top Cat , a special horse to me, as we won a ladies race by 3 lengths. I have done recent commissions of a filly called Mica and a shetland called Coffee Bean. Horse Chestnut was also done in the past.
I also do Digital art using subjects of African animals which can be seen on my websites.
I am no longer involved in racing and live on a wildlife estate in the bush near the Kruger Park.
