Last of Var Sprint series sees grand finale

Sunday, 16 June sees the last of this year's VAR-themed Sprint races when ten of South Africa's fastest 3 year olds and future stars of the track will step up to the challenge in the R150 000 VAR Durban Dash over 1100m at Clairwood.   The event is also the culmination of the VAR syndicate's three year sponsorship of the series, after an exciting period which saw the re-vitalisation of the Sprint category in South Africa under the banner of Avontuur's speedster sire, who boasts champion offspring like Val de Ra, Variety Club and Via Africa amongst others.

Comments Pippa Mickleburgh, Avontuur Estate GM; "Since the inception of the series and the financial commitment by the VAR syndicate to enhance the number of sprint races in this country, we have had many exciting achievements and new stars born from the series.  VAR himself has done so well for us and the syndicate that we feel our policy of putting our money where our mouths are, has proven itself over and over again!  We can only hope that the two big national operators will continue to support the category in future and keep this crowd-pleasing item on the race cards, whilst increasing exposure for the sprinters."

For this race we have ten runners lined up with VAR represented by De Var Hyt and Avontuur by Tevez, although both of them will have their work cut out with current favourite Cape Royal looking very good at the moment!  VAR will be represented during the rest of the day's outings by amongst others Variometer and Valdivia, all of which guarantees some exciting racing on the day.
