Karis Teetan has been granted a licence to ride in Hong Kong for the forthcoming season. His licence is subject to the following.
Hkjc has agreeded to grant the licence, subject to a satisfactory medical examination and an undertaking to arrive in Hong Kong by no later than Sunday, 25 August 2013, a half season Club Jockey’s licence for the 2013/2014 racing season was granted.
Jockey Teetan, 23 years, is now well ensconced in the top 10 of the South African Jockeys' Championship. After entering the South African National Jockey Academy at the age of 14 Jockey Teetan went on to be crowned Champion South African Apprentice Jockey in 2008 before graduating in 2009 with 147 winners to his credit. Jockey Teetan has continued to ride successfully, having passed the 100 winners mark in every season since becoming a senior jockey and is now closing in on 500 career wins. In all, Jockey Teetan has recorded 5 group 1 wins with his inaugural success at the top level being in his native Mauritius on 24 November 2008 aboard HALO HUNTER. His other group 1 winners include GRISHAM in the 2011 Castle Tankard in Zimbabwe, THUNDER DANCE in the 2012 Paddock Stakes at Kenilworth Racecourse, Cape Town as well as JACKSON in the 2012 Investec Cape Derby and the 2012 Daily News 2000 at Greyville Racecourse, Durban. Jockey Teetan also has 5 group 2 wins, 4 group 3 victories and 14 listed wins to his credit. Apart from riding a number of winners in Mauritius Jockey Teetan has also represented South Africa in the 2012 International Jockeys' Invitational in Seoul, Korea as well as in the 2008 Macau Apprentice Jockeys Invitation Races. Jockey Teetan has advised that his minimum riding weight is 113 lbs.
