Lot 1 Tiger Ridge colt

Misty Ridge by Tiger Ridge out of Rain and Shine

2013 National Sale Candidate

“a very racy athletic colt with an action to match his pedigree!”

The Dam is a winner and well related being half sister to Kabool (Sire in SA) Shareef Kabeer (8 wins) From the top international family of Fall Aspen (USA Broodmare of the Year) who has produced 13 winners from 13 runners (4 Group 1 winners; 2 Group 2 winners) - including Fort Wood (Sire), Dubai Millennium (9 wins) etc.

Tiger Ridge is very well bred being by Storm Cat and a half brother to AP Indy and Summer Squall. He was the Champion Freshman Sire in Florida and in South Africa. Tiger Ridge placed second in the Leading Sires by AEI in 2013 having produced Grade 1 winners and performers Cherry on the Top, Wagner, and Kavanagh, etc.

The Dam was a Grade 3 winner and has produced 2 winners already, including Journeyman who is going to Dubai with Mike De Kock this year. He is from the family of Dance all Day (G1 placed - 6 wins), Manville (G3 placed - 5 wins), Brief Affair (6 wins) and Champion European fillies, Pass the Peace (Grade 1 winner) and Embassy (Grade 1 winner), and King’s Apostle (Grade 1 winner) one of South Africa’s new sires.

Western Winter is one of the best stallions in South African history have produced more Grade 1 winners than any other stallion in the country and being Champion Sire in South Africa on three occasions. He has produced many champions, including two Horse of the Years, Yard –Arm and Winter Solstice, and more recently Champion Sprinter What a Winter and Capetown Noir.

The dam is Stakes placed and won 7 races up to a mile and her progeny have been placed. He is from the family of Garb of Guise (Grade 1 winner) and Toga (Stakes winner - 6 wins).

Kahal has been Champion Sire in KZN for several seasons and is in the top 5 sires in South Africa, having finished third on the Leading Sires log in 2013. He has produced 30 Stakes Winners and 4 Grade 1 winners including top horses Love Struck, Festival of Fire, Emperor Napoleon, Desert Links, Chocholicious, Checcheti, Bold Ellinore, etc.

The dam won is a Stakes winner and Grade 2 Placed by USA stallion, Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Cozzene (USA). This is her first foal. She is well related to Star Queen (Stakes Winner - 5 wins), Hanging On A Star (Grade 1 winner) and Comet Shine (Grade 1 winner), and many others.

Antonius Pious was a top quality racehorse, who would have won the G1 French Guineas had he not veered at the finish. Beautifully bred he is by Danzig out of a G1 winner and is vying with Judpot as best young stallion around. He is typical of Danzig producing speedy precocious types in SA including My Sanctuary, Yoshie and Antonious Du Bois, however his dam was an Oaks winner and so there is potential for the progeny to get better with distance and age.

The dam, a Model Man mare, is unraced but has produced a winner by Kahal (3 wins) from her only runner. She is a half sister to Juan Pablo (Stakes Winner - 13 wins). From the family of Blushing Dove (Grade 2 Winner - 6 wins), Black Rod (Grade 1 Placed - 8 wins), The Badger (Grade 3 Winner - 11 wins), and La Deportista (Grade 2 winner - 6 wins).

This is Mambo in Seattle’s first season in SA, having been a Grade 1 performer with 4 wins in the USA. He is fabulously bred, being by Kingmambo, with his dam placed in the Oaks G1, and from the famous Lassie Dear family of AP Indy (world leading sire), Ruler of the World (Epsom Derby winner), Lemon Drop Kid (top USA sire) and Summer Squall (USA sire).

The dam won 6 races is Stakes placed and has produced a Stakes winner of 4 races already (Albert Mooney). Well related to Bush Conqueror (Stakes Winner - 3 wins) and Legacy Man (Stakes Placed – 6 wins).

Fort Wood is one of the country’s best stallions this century having produced more Horse of the Years than any other, namely Horse Chestnut, Celtic Grove and Dynasty as well as being Champion Sire on two occasions. His dam Fall Aspen was USA Broodmare of the Year. Other top performers by Fort Wood include Grade 1 horses Elusive Fort, Dogwood, Coverlook, Ilha Bella, to name a few.

She is out of a mare who is a Grade 3 winner of 5 races in Brazil, including several graded wins and places. She is from a very good family who all perform well including Soberbo – Grade 1 Winner and Champion 2yo colt in Brazil, and Dochinim (Stakes Winner - 5 wins).

Pure Prize is a son of the legendary Storm Cat and has produced no less than 55 Stakes Winners and 11 Grade 1 winners overseas. He shuttled from USA in 2007 after winning 5 races including a Grade 2 in USA. His dam was the Champion Filly in USA and he his numerous Grade 1 winners include Pure Clan, Winning Prize, etc.

His dam is a Grade 3 Winner and is a prolific producer. She has already produced 6 winners from 7 runners including three Stakes Winners: Captain in Command (full brother – Grade 3 winner, 7 wins), Canadian Sunset (Stakes Winner - 4 wins), and Reconcile (Stakes Winner - 9 wins).

Captain Al needs no introduction as apart from being a top racehorse (Grade 1 winner; 9 wins 1000-1600m) he has been a highly successful sire having been Champion 2YO Sire five years in a row. He is the sire of All is Secret, Hill Fifty Four and Captain of All among many other top performers.

Trippi won 5 races including the G1 Vosburgh and was Champion Sire of 2YO’s in Florida and was Champion Freshman Sire of 2012 in South Africa. He has produced Grade 1 winners overseas and in South Africa. His top horses here include Franny, For the Lads, Abercrombie and the fast juvenile Agra.
