AMBLEWAY NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2013

We did not send out a newsletter last month instead we sent our brochure of the Ambleway draft for the Ready To Run Sale at Germiston early in November. It was a huge success for our draft  which sold really well and we were so happy for our clients that had had repossessions on the sale and made much more money at this sale than the National Sale earlier this year. The horses seem to have matured and grown and they certainly did us proud with Lot 4 early in the sale, a son of Western Winter, CHILLI AFFAIR, being sold on Friday for R1,2 million ! He was bought by Misty Meadows who was the top buyer at the sale also purchasing an Encosta De lago colt for R1,8 million- the top price! These horses are to be trained by local charismatic trainer Michael Azzie.

There was a shortage of buyers on the Friday night when we sold most of our draft and we were therefore delighted to get an average price of R337,222 which was pretty high! On the Sunday there was a lot more interest and we sold our Trippi colt for R475,000 to Marcus Jooste! We were also delighted to get a number back from the sale to keep ticking over and to give them more time. We were really thrilled that our draft is going to really top trainers so they will achieve their potential……Mike De Kock (2).Glen Kotzen,Brett Crawford,Com Naidoo,Duncan Howells(2)Michael Azzie and   one was bought by Hong Kong trainers!

Overall the aggregate on the sale was up as 48 more horses were sold this year and although the average was down by R7000  on last year, for Ambleway it was very successful!

Last week end we attended the KZN Breeders Awards dinner at Bellwood  and it was a great evening. We had a few nominations that had passed through Ambleway including LOVESTRUCK who was voted  the Outstanding Middle Distance Male and Three Year old Colt bred in KZN. He is owned by the racing personality Alesh Naidoo and he was bred by Summerhill Stud who also scooped the leading breeders of the year award. The stallion Kahal, who is also the sire of LOVESTRUCK, was the Champion Stallion! Horse Of the Year went to the filly Festival of Fire who won 3 awards!

During the past few months the Feature Racing has moved to the Vaal where racing climaxed with the Emerald Cup day. We did not have runners competing in the big race but were delighted to see FORMATION win the Emerald Filles Handicap(listed) by an easy 43\4 lenghts. This daughter of Sarge out of Pollainnaise has recently featured well and has won the Charity mile over the same distance and be placed in the Yellowood Handicap(G 3) over 1800 meters

We were thrilled to see LINK MAN run a great 2nd in the Spring Challenge over 1450 meters after a long rest. He ran a super race for his connections Larry Nestadt, Greg Blank and Mike de Kock. In his next race he was competing against a strong field and ran below par, but in his next appearance on the track finished  2nd for them!

In the Gardenia Handicap(listed) two of our graduates featured well…TIGER QUEST won and MISS OCTOBER ran 3rd! The latter had come back after a long rest, and moved to Geoff Woodruff ,and delighted her owners with a great first run! TIGER QUEST had run and won 2 weeks before this race over a sprint distance and her speed shows she is suited to these shorter distances where she has plenty of toe. Well done to her Australian owners |breeders the Botts and Larry Nestadt and Bernard Kantor all of whom also bred her. Dom Zaki you have a really good sprinter on your hands as she is only 3 years old!

On the track we have been successful in Cape Town where Dennis Drier has announced his presence with BEACH BEAUTY and MASTER OF MY FATE both winning their prep runs in fine style. The filly won over 1400 meters for the Shanks Syndicate and showed everyone that although she may be 6 years old that this daughter of Dynasty still loves running! The big son of Jet Master, MASTER OF MY FATE, won a good race over a mile and although a bit green he won easily for the Papageorgiou family winning his 4 from 5 starts! Watch out for him now he is going over ground!

The Drier yard were in the winners enclosure again in KZN with KITCO winning again, and OCTAVIA, INSPECTOR CASEY,ETHYLENE, TERRA NOVA all won their maidens for their respective connections.

The St John Gray yard have been in the limelight with FORMATION winning and GLITTER ALLEY,NORGAY and VIDEO GAMES all making the frame. The latter two are both grey and are out of the useful Kilkonnel mare, SUMMIT SEEKER who was schooled here some years ago!

In KZN Duncan Howells has had a good run and one of these graduates ORANGE BLOSSOM won a gutsy race with MURMERING SKY and DANSEUSE finishing close up behind her. She is owned by Ian Van Schalkwyk who also won in the same week end with My Sanctuary and One Cool Dude……Well done Ian!

Several other horses have won including AIR PATROL for Garth Puller in KZN and his new team of owners, TWILIGHT ELVA won in Gauteng for Stan Ferreira and WOODLAND GEM a daughter of Fort Wood made the frame in the Cape for Mike Bass and Pat and Henry Devine her breeders! LADY CARTER won for Wendy Whitehead and owners in KZN. She was bought at Mike Holmes Sale and she won her debut easily!

In PE the half sister to LADY CARTER , QUICK DELIVERY ,won for Des Scott her owner and breeder and Gavin Smith. UP AND RUNNING also won there for his new connections over 1200meters. This son of Tiger Ridge has been knocking on the door over sprint distances!

Quite a few of our past graduates that have been sold at the Ready To Run Sales have won including SABRE TOOTH, WIND AT YOUR BACK and SAMMY SILVER. SABRE TOOTH did not make the Ready To Run Cup race this year but looks like being a super racehorse for Chris van Niekerk and his purchaser Sean Tarry. He has won 2 out of 4 starts, the last being really impressive as he beat an open field over 2000 meters……a classic colt in the making. The other 2 horses have been running consistent races in Kimberley and Gauteng for trainers Kotze and  Erasmus

There is a long list of placed horses that deserve following…..

WILD LORD,HARD ROCK,KELIKOTE EXPRESS,SAN VINCENZO,PAY MASTER,MADAME ROONEY,HALLOWED,FORESTATION,AL ROMANOV,NORDIC LASS,TIMELESS TEST,ASSESSMENT,MALKIA,MORPHEUS ECSTACY,WEST VIRGINIA,UMOYANA,NINJA WARRIOR,SACRED CALL,UNDERCOVER CAT,FIGHTING FORCE,KISS AND TELL,HOWAMI,FIGHTING FORCE,MIGHTY MO,CHESTNUT CHARGER,WIN OVER,TYCOON TOUCH,CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD,EGYPTIAN,SARGE IN CHARGE,BREATHLESS,ICE GODDESS DADDYS LUCK,CODE RED,BAY ROUTE and PLATINUM FOX.

We are thrilled with our foals that have been born this year as in the Cape FINE FEATHER foaled down a filly by Toreodor, in KZN we have a filly by King Of Kings  out of her Western Winter daughter, STRAWBERRY FLEECE and another filly by Mogok out of our Jet Master mare, AIRBRUSH. We have had all fillies that are the same colour-bay and have big white stars on their forehead……..very unusual as they are similar in colour irrespective of their sire or dam!

That is all for now, until December, enjoy your racing !
