PREVIEW: VAAL (SAND) - 22 APRIL 2014

FLY ME HIGH has good form but best form has been on sand, Flamingo Park. Has the form to contest the finish. KING OF CLOTH ran his best race to date last time. Has yet to race on sand. May improve even further this track. BATTLE OF ALMA runs for the fourteenth time. Penultimate start was his best. That was this C & D. WILD THING runs for the eighteenth time. Has placed in one-third of his races. ROYAL STOCK runs for the thirty sixth time. Will need a miracle, but last effort was his best in a lengthy battle to win a race!

ACROSS THE ICE won with authority last time. Has excellent form this C & D: 9(5-2-0) and watch for another strong finish. ISOBAR has good turf form and runs for the first time on sand. Watch, especially with Richard Fourie having made the trip up from Cape Town. STAVINSKY will be running on but meets ACROSS THE ICE at level terms for an over four length defeat. HANG FIRE disappointed in Kimberley last time. Better form here. LINK MAN has yet to show on sand.

LADY CASEY has been consistent. A drop in trip may suit. MAYAN DESTINY has been improving on sand. Latest effort was her best in eleven starts. FOREVER A FRIEND has finished second in both her track starts. Could contest the finish. RUNAWAY TIME has only placed on sand. Last run was on turf and she did not show. MERLINS GEM did not show over 1000m last time. Better over this trip.

SHIVER 'N SHAKE has very good form and has won both of her starts this C & D. Will be running on. BE MINE TONIGHT won well when making her track debut last time. Has also won over a sprint distance. NTOMBE ran well last time when making her sand debut. One to consider on that vastly improved effort. CLUB CAPTAIN usually shows good pace before weakening. INVENTIVE GIRL has good sand dorm and won this C & D last time.

TRIP TEASE has won three from six starts. He won the Grade 3 Man O' War at Turffontein last time out. He has also won this C & D. Worth following again. DENNIS THE MENACE has good sand form but is a bit off form. Drops in class. SOLE MIO was returning from a break last time and won effortlessly. Not out of it. Ran well in a feature at this track in September. ROCKINGANDROLLING hasn't won for a while but could be improving. JIMMYS LIGHTNING won this C & D two runs back, but against weaker.

TAPTAP MAKHATINI loves this C & D: 5(4-1-0). Second run after a lengthy break but won on his return very comfortably last time. Piere Strydom retains the ride. THE MOUSEKETEER is also a track specialist and his last run is best ignored as he lost six lengths at the start. Will be running on. PYLON should have his last two runs ignored over turf. This course specialist warrant the utmost respect and should go very close back over his best C & D: 4(3-1-0). UNCLE TOMMY did not show in his last two either. Both were on turf in very strong fields. ONE MAN'S DREAM has more to find but turf form is decent.

JACKODORE did not show in the Emperor's Club. Is better suited to sand and should be the one to beat. RIVULET takes on stronger but can feature with the light mass. FESTIVAL OF FIRE makes her sand debut. Has run well against some top sorts. Chance if taking to the sand. FORMATION did not show any interest last time. Is better than that last run. Has the ability to run in to the money. NIGHTINGALE GREY is in good form but takes on far stronger. Form this C & D is very good.

JAMES BLUNT showed very good improvement in his second start last time. Ran on well under lights earlier this month. First time on sand. TRIPLE DISTILLED is improving and this looks to be a surface that will suit him. CASTLE KEEP showed improvement last time. Also runs on sand for the first time. NGIYASHISA tends to weaken. Can place at best. JUST A THOUGHT has only placed at this track but has a mountain to climb to win.
