AMBLEWAY NEWSLETTER END JULY 2014

KZN FEATURES IN THE WINTER SEASON

The July Day loomed and it certainly was very exciting.....we had a few special runners on the day and they proved worth following;

BEACH BEAUTY won the Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes Grade 1 for the second year in succession. Her run in this race was vindicated, as she missed the July Handicap, she ran and won another Graded race to her tally! This was to be her last race and she was to be to be retired on such a good note! She has won over R 5 million for the Shanks Syndicate , and has won 17 out of 31 starts for them.......5 x Grade 1s ,6x Grade 2s ,and a Grade 3 !
The darling of the S A turf is parading before the runners of the Beach Beauty Champions stakes on the Gold Cup Day...a sad sight that we won’t see her again but for her it is very exciting as she is off to Drakenstein Stud where she starts a new future-that of being a broodmare!

SAME JURISDICTION showed her connections a taste of what was thought of her by winning the KZN Yearling Sale Million(non Black Type) over1300 meters! She had already won her maiden in easy fashion and did come with a late burst to win this race having raced in a handy position. She beat the second horse BECKEDORF who also raced handy and had used his speed, had a terrible draw to contend with first for the Drier yard and owner Erich Buhr. SAME JURISDICTION now races on Gold Cup day in the Thekweni Stakes where she meets some of the best two year old fillies in SA. Her connections Messers van Schalkwyk, Vermaak ,Powell and Dr Ralph Katzwinkel and her owner-trainer Duncan Howells all have high hopes for her!

On the same day two of our graduates ran cracking races to finish placed....DARKNESS and CRESCENDO ran second and fourth respectfully in a sprint over1200 meters with the former horse just being placed second by a whisker. Well done to all of the connections of these two horses who have proved again that they run so honestly for the Drier yard!

Ambleway took 6 yearlings to be sold at the KZN Sale before the July. We sold RAGING FIRE ( Tiger Ridge x Sister Nation) very well for R450,000 which was one of the top prices at the sale! We brought back 3 yearlings to grow out as they were a little immature at this sale-an Argonaut, Antonious Pious and a Mullins Bay. They do all qualify for the KZN Million Rand race next year and those bred in KZN also qualify for the KZN race on Breeders Day!

We were very pleased to be sent plenty of yearlings to school from this sale as well by well known stallions Muhtafal,Toreodor(2),Mogok(2),National Emblem, Count Du Bois, Ashawees(2), Miesque Approval(2)and freshman hopefuls Mambo In Seattle, Lateral(2 ) and A P Answer, and new stallions on the block-Kings Chapel, Noordhoek Flier ,Just As Well, as well as A P Arrow and Argonaut who were less fancied at this sale! Thank you to all the trainers and owners who had the confidence to send these babies to grow out and school here at Ambleway.

The sale average was up 13% and the median 40% up on the KZN sale last year. Although the number of horses through the ring was less than last year it was still encouraging to see. The thing that certainly showed is that buyers were discerning only going for some horses. It was generally a tough sale for sellers!

At Ambleway we have also been sent horses from Australia to grow out -2 were purchased at the recent Sydney Easter Sale a colt by MANHATTAN RAIN (Encosta de Lago) out of a Sinndar mare (TASKARA) who is very strong, and a well bred filly by HIGH CHAPERAL(Sadlers Wells) that is out of the mare LARROCHA (Danehill) and she traces back to Sir Tristram!

We also received 2 weanlings to grow out by Wheres That Tiger out of a mare that we are familiar with BROCCO BABE( ULTIMATE TIGER fame )and TITANIA who may be unfamiliar to us but is a great cross being out of a Mr Prospector stallion.

Ambleway also received several babies from farms to grow out and school being by well known Count Du Bois and successful sire Judpot. We have also received 7 horses for the Ready To Run sale....more about them later!

The Gold Cup Day is on this Saturday and we hold thumbs for all our graduates running.......in particular SAME JURISDICTION, LITTLEBLACKNUMBER and VARIKATE who run in features and others to follow are KELIKOTE EXPRESS, IMPERIAL FABERGE ,TARGET FIVE and ETHYLENE. Let’s hope it is a great day!

We have had success with horses out of the Province when NIGHT EDITOR won for his new trainer Clinton Binda , after being placed often , and UP AND RUNNING won in PE for his new connections . Both are useful sprinters that were sent here by Mike De Kock. In Gauteng we were pleased with the win by the useful stayer-YER MAAN won over 1800 meters for owner-trainer St John Gray. In the Cape MADAME ROONEY won again for her connections over 1400 meters –well done Braam and conditioner Burger!

In KZN we were delighted to see the daughter of Dynasty , INFORMATION HI WAY score for Knut Haug and the Driers. This filly has been running consistently and definitely has got better the further she tries! This race was over 1950meters.

Placed horses that should win soon include KELIKOTE EXPRESS, TARGET FIVE, SHES A STUNNER, ULTIMATE TIGER, DARKNESS, CRESCENDO, IRISH ANGEL,ROMAN LEGION,SAN VINCENCO,LIGHTENEING LILY,MASTER BANKER,BREATHLESS,MURMERING SKY,QUICK DELIVERY,BLUE BAY GIRL,CHILL,IMPERIAL WISH,TARGET FIVE, LINK MAN,CANNON,GANESH and TWILIGHT ELVA

Juveniles to follow are OBREGA who has been placed twice and this daughter of Var
is knocking on the door for Knut Haug and Dennis Drier. Another colt to watch is CAPTAINS ORDERS –he has run 2 places for Joey Ramsden and owner Marcus Jooste. He ran 2nd first time out over 1400 meters then was placed 3rd in a listed race at Kenilworth-The Winter Juvenile Stakes a sprint over 1200 meters. He was sold at the Ready To Run Sale last year and was a super mover at that time! Watch this son of Captain Al!

That is all for now...the next letter will be featuring the Championship Winners and the Gold Cup day

Until then ...Enjoy your racing
