PREVIEW SINGAPORE Sunday 17 August 2014

A tough card to find winners but on the the plus side that usually equates to value for canny punters.

Case in point is race 9 on the 11 race card, a Benchmark 83 over 1400m.

Most runners look to be in the mix with last start winner, BOGART, the most obvious choice.

The 4YO knocked in his fourth career win (and second over this trip) in what looked a good Class 3 field at his last start and more than capable of continue his winning run.

However, there are a few stayers fresh enough to think they will be storming home and can figure heavily at the business end.

The Mark Walker pair of SMILESWITHHISEYES and REIDEL both appreciate what looked solid first-up runs over 1200m and both look horses to follow in what should be similar campaigns.

But the stayer that can win first up over 1400m - hopefully at a price - is LORD BROMPTON.

The 6YO won a very similar affair first-up this time last year and given four of his five subsequent runs were in group company, there is no reason he can’t start this campaign off with a bang as well.

Best Bets; (BRINGITHOME race 10, win), (LORD BROMPTON race 9, value) and (BUNGAE race 11, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12), race 9 (1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 9), race 10 (1 and 3), race 11 (1, 2, 5 and 10).

RACE 8: CLASS 5 (2) - 1600M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 16:25 PRIZE MONEY: S$35000

Larry says, "A very average Class 5 mile - so much so a maiden having his 50th career start could even jump favourite. The horse in question is SUPER VELOX and with Juglall placing on the 6YO last start, he could go two better in what looks a very weak field. But at the top of the ratings (on a lofty 31), another maiden in EXCEPTIONAL CHOICE could get his chance. In his favour is the fact this is his first run in Class 5 company and his last run in Maiden company good enough to win this with a downgrade to winkers stepping up in trip. Some unreliables in JOHHNY HATES JAZZ, REAL GOODMAN, ZENA and CHENGDU WARRIOR all go close on best form with DOUBLE HOCK probably the horse with the most honest form of late and a solid each-way hope with Flores up."

RACE 9: OPEN BENCHMARK 83 - 1400M COURSE B (LC) TIME: 17:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$100000

Larry says, "A very tough race with a few stayers having their first or second-up runs and a few smart types in form suggesting the finish will be busy. Add a newcomer from Argentina and the tote my be our best friend. In saying that, LORD BROMPTON has won first-up over this trip only six starts back and given four out of his next five were good runs in Group company, he must be respected. Mark Walker has two stayers in this - REIDEL and SMILESWITHHISEYES - and both appreciate very solid first-up runs and both go close to winning this. QUECHUA is the Argentinean and he won his trial - albeit in a slow time - but you can be sure Pat Shaw will have him ready to show his best at his Singapore debut with market the best guide. You can make a case for rest with BOGART in winning form, ALFONSO smarter than a few and TIGER MASTER better than what he showed last start."

3   Quechua     N Juglall P Shaw 3 74 56.0 6.00
Group winner from Argentina who comes into this with a solid run under his belt. Market a good guide.
4 38356 Touch Of Gold     D Beasley Hw Tan 4 72 55.0 12
Placed last time he ran over this trip and will keep them honest late.
5 *1841 Bogart     M Nunes M Freedman 9 71 54.5 4.00

6 43123 Smileswithhiseyes     L Allpress M Walker 7 71 54.5 10
First-up run was promising but might want longer again to win.
7 89156 Lucky Mission     I Santana M Clements 8 70 54.0 10

8 38215 Riedel     A Munro M Walker 6 69 53.5 8.00

9 45103 Alfonso     I Saifudin L Laxon 5 65 51.5 4.00
Honest and looks well up to this with 51.5kg.

RACE 10: KRANJI STAKES D (SET WEIGHTS) (1) (CLAIMING RIDERS ONLY) - 1200M (POLYTRACK) TIME: 17:30 PRIZE MONEY: S$38000

Larry says, "At first glance a last start winner in TWODOLLARMUPPET could be too good for this field with a couple of well-beaten fourths the best recent form from the other hopefuls. TWODOLLARMUPPET swooped when winning on that occasion suggesting he might get better over longer and certainly will make his presence felt at the business end in this. But while well-beaten as the odds-on punters elect at his last start, BRINGITHOME is smart and hopefully brings his "A game" first-up after a long spell. Obviously the spell suggests something was amiss back in January and the break hopefully has done the lightly-raced 4YO the world of good. The race doesn't have depth so a couple of horses closer to Class 5 than anywhere else in SIMPANG and PETITE VICTOIRE should race well and both should be value given the support likely for the muppet."

2 96474 Single Act     App H Amin-4 M Walker 9 53 58.0 10
Over-due to break Singapore duck but drop back in trip is a concern.
3 51 Twodollarmuppet     App S Noh-3 M Clements 7 53 58.0 2.00
Finished over the top of them when supported to win maiden last start. Can follow.
4 76476 Farrand     M Ewe-1 D Kok 4 50 56.5 7.50

8 804 Ocean Dream     App P Dellorto-3 S Chua 1 44 55.0 33
Well beaten into fourth last start and easy to ignore.
9 84175 Simpang     App K A'isisuhairi-1 Hw Tan 3 44 55.0 12
Excuses not to finish close in Class 4 last start and looks well-placed here to go well.

RACE 11: CLASS 4 - 1400M COURSE B (LC) TIME: 18:00 PRIZE MONEY: S$60000

Larry says, "A great race to finish the card and expect a very busy finish and support for five or so runners. Of those who should get support, two last start winners in SPUN GOLD and DEAUVILLE look the stand-outs. SPUN GOLD turned some good form since returning after a bleeding attack to win very well last start. The Brown/Brown combination is a good one and the 4YO could be hard to beat. But DEAUVILLE also won well with heavy support last start and is right in this. The Darci Brahma 4YO was in good form before winning over this trip in KSD company last start and Class 4 is no issue. It gets interesting after that with CONFIERO some hope to make amends after being beaten as the odds-on pop last start and TEQUILA SHOT - a newcomer from South Africa - looks better than Class 4 but might need more ground to show his best. For value, keep BUNGAE safe and TO BE REMEMBERED is always an each-way hope."
