GLITTERING FINALE TO THE FLAT SEASON - BRITISH CHAMPIONS DAY

The eyes of the racing world will be firmly focused on Ascot Racecourse on Saturday for the richest ever day in British racing.

1:45 Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) 2m
2:20 Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 2) 6f
2:55 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1) 1m4f
3:30 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored by Qipco) (British Champions Mile) (Group 1) 1m
4:05 Qipco Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance) (Group 1) 1m2f
4:45 Balmoral Handicap (Sponsored By Qipco) 1m

QIPCO British Champions Day boasts more than £4million in prizemoney and has attracted some of the best horses in training, who will line up for three Group One races, two Group Twos, and the most valuable one-mile handicap in Europe.

QIPCO Champion Stakes

Nine runners will go to post for the day's showpiece contest, the QIPCO Champion Stakes.

Favourite Cirrus Des Aigles has been drawn widest of all in stall nine, with last year's Investec Derby hero Ruler Of The World having the inside berth.

Corine Barande-Barbe's pride and joy took the showpiece event in 2011 and has finished second in the last two renewals behind Frankel and Farhh respectively.

The eight-year-old still will be out to make amends for being demoted to fifth place after he was first past the post in the Prix Dollar at Longchamp earlier this month.

Ruler Of The World is also no stranger to previous renewals of this race, having finished a close third 12 months ago.

Free Eagle, whose trainer Dermot Weld says he will make a decision over the colt's participation on the day of the race, stands his ground along with Noble Mission, whose full-brother Frankel so memorably twice lit up this meeting.

David Simcock's globetrotter Sheikhzayedroad, the John Gosden-trained Western Hymn, Roger Varian's Ayrad, Roger Charlton's Al Kazeem and Richard Hannon's supplementary entry Pether's Moon complete the line-up.

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

Class acts, Night Of Thunder and Charm Spirit, are among 11 horses declared. Richard Hannon's Night Of Thunder has failed to get his head in front since his memorable 2000 Guineas triumph in the spring, but is closely matched with Freddy Head's French raider Charm Spirit on their recent meeting at Longchamp.

Charm Spirit clinched the Prix du Moulin in Paris last month, with Night Of Thunder just half a length away in third.

Hannon is also represented by Toormore but has, as expected, taken out the Breeders' Cup-bound Toronado on account of the ground.

Kieren Fallon has been booked to ride Toormore and connections are cautiously optimistic about his chances.

Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing, said: "Kieren has probably ridden more Group One winners than I've had hot dinners, so it's great to have him on side and we'll talk tactics nearer the time. Richard Hannon tells me the horse is in really good form, so fingers crossed."

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly Integral has already struck twice at Group One level this year, landing the Falmouth Stakes and the Sun Chariot, and is pitched in against the boys. No filly or mare has won this race since Milligram in 1987.

Qipco British Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes

Last year's Irish Oaks winner Chicquita is among a field of 10 declared for the Qipco British Champion Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

The filly, who cost €6million at Goffs in November, will be having her third start for the Aidan O'Brien stable having been well beaten in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp earlier this month.

Johnny Murtagh's We'll Go Walking is the other Irish raider, while French interests are represented by the John Hammond-trained Pollyana.

Silk Sari and Albasharah, who were supplemented on Monday, will also take their chance.

The Luca Cumani-trained Silk Sari staked her claim when winning the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster, while the Saeed bin Suroor-trained Albasharah was also added to the field at a cost of £35,000 after she was victorious in a Listed event at Newmarket last week.

Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup

Gold Cup one-two Leading Light and Estimate once again lock horns in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Saturday.

Aidan O'Brien's Leading Light narrowly denied the Queen's Estimate successive victories in the Royal Ascot feature in June, although the Sir Michael Stoute-trained stayer was later disqualified due to a positive test for a banned substance.

Leading Light went on to the land the Irish St Leger Trial, but was beaten into second in the Irish Leger itself on his most recent appearance.

Estimate disappointed at Goodwood immediately after her Gold Cup reverse, but ran better in the Lonsdale Cup at York and was back on the winning trail in the Doncaster Cup.

Qipco British Champions Sprint

There is a strong Irish representation among 17 runners in the British Champions Sprint.

Tom Hogan's multiple Group One winner Gordon Lord Byron is joined by Evanna McCutcheon's Maarek, a winner of this race two years ago, as well as the Eddie Lynam-trained pair of Gathering Power and Viztoria.

David O'Meara's Sprint Cup hero G Force was supplemented and heads the betting, with proven mudlark Jack Dexter another leading hope for the home team.

A huge field of 28 go to post for the concluding Balmoral Handicap, with Hughie Morrison's Chil The Kite heading the weights.
