UP IN LIGHTS has been running on well and enjoys this C & D. NAZIRA improved by nine lengths in her second start last time. Must have a chance on that improved run. RACE 3

PETTY OFFICER must have a strong chance on her last two runs. Ran on really well last time. PRINCESS CHLOE won her last two impressively. Can make it the hat trick. Sharp rise in class though. VOL DE NUIT disappointed badly in a similar strength field last time. SEVEN GRAND has steady but uninspiring form. SCHOOL RUN won her maiden at the second attempt last time. May need to confirm though.

RACE 4

DESERT SWIRL won her last two very well and can make it the hat trick. MANX MISSILE was not disgraced in a feature last time. Races handy. GOTHIC will be running on late. Was not disgraced in the Gold Cup over the distance a few months ago. COLTRANE could be improving again. Penultimate run in Harare was disappointing. PUTNEY FLYER was an unlucky loser last time. Met with traffic problems. Should earn something.

1st – DESERT SWIRL (15/10 F) (3); 2nd – MANX MISSILE (5); 3rd – GOTHIC (2); 4th - COLTRANE (1); 5th – PUTNEY FLYER (6)

10 AFRIKABURN A B 8 53.0 Dean Kannemeyer Gerrit Schlechter
11 LIGHT THE LIGHTS A 1 53.0 Glen Kotzen Greg Cheyne

RACE 5

This is a keenly awaited race with some of the best horses in the country taking part. The Cape Summer Season should start with a BANG! with this race. Horse of the year, LEGISLATE, won the Durban July in fine style as well at the other Grade 1 in Durban, The Daily News. Going for his fifth straight win. Hasn't run since the July and could need the run but we are talking about the best horse in the country. Stable companion, READYTOGORIGHTNOW, is tipped to win. It would be fitting were Piere Strydom to win this Grade 2 event aboard the champion trainer of the past season. He takes on a bit stronger than in his last two but has a record that most horses in the country would by proud to have. Will be finishing well. The third horse with a winning chance is FUTURA, one of my favourite horses running at the moment. He won the Grade 1 Champions Cup at Greyville in impressive style. As a four year old, he could be Horse of the Season for 2014/5. Both JET AGLOW and AFRIKABURN have ability with the blinkers going on the latter. JET AGLOW cannot be ignored and must have a money chance, especially with Dennis Drier's annual raid on the Wester Cape and the success he has. AFRIKABURN has hit a bit of a wobble in recent times. I rate him highly and he will win a few this season.

1st – READYTOGORIGHTNOW (5/1) (4); 2nd – LEGISLATE (5/2 F) (1); 3rd – FUTURA (2); 4th - JET AGLOW (9); 5th – AFRIKABURN (10)

5 CATKIN A 7 56.5 Joey Ramsden Greg Cheyne
6 BALANCE SHEET A 3 56.5 Dean Kannemeyer Karl Neisius
7 COTTON HILL A 4 56.5 Joey Ramsden Anthony Andrews

RACE 6

ACT OF WAR has raced five times for four wins and one close up second when making her debut. It is not the four consecutive wins that are important but how he won them. Impressively with something in hand. MLJET is top class. was heavily backed to win a feature race last time but was pipped on the line. can't disregard his chances. GENERALISSIMO has won three from four. I'm not sure whether the 1600m will suit though. Cannot question trainer's decisions. KINGVOLDT disappointed in his last two. Can earn something nevertheless. BALANCE SHEET takes on stronger. Both wins have been over the distance.

1st – ACT OF WAR (6/10 F) (1); 2nd – MLJET (3); 3rd – GENERALISSIMO (4); 4th - KINGVOLDT (2); 5th – BALANCE SHEET (6)

ALEXIS won her last two but takes on stronger. Looks a promising sort. ZAMBEZI RIVER is unbeaten after two. Won really well last time despite an awkward start. First run out of Gauteng. BRUTAL FORCE won his maiden at the third attempt last time. May have to confirm but did win that race comfortably. THE CAPTAIN'S TUNE ran a good post maiden last time. The blinkers go on. Also runs for the first time outside Gauteng. PEACE PACT ran on well in his post maiden last time.

RACE 8

ALS BONANZA ran on well to place second last time. Could be good value. RED FLAME ran on well to win last time. Chance again. DIVA'S DAUGHTER has been improving again. Good chance in this field. MATIES WILDEKAT was running on last time. EROS'S GIRL ran in feature races in Durban during the season without showing much. Ran an improved race in her home town last time.

RACE 9

TALES OF SILVER has been showing excellent improvement. Finished really impressively last time. One to finish close up again. PEACH DELIGHT has had two good post maiden runs and should give another good account of herself. AQUILA JET won her maiden at the third attempt last time. May need to confirm but is ante post favourite. AMARILLO STARLIGHT is a honest sort with a chance. A two-time winner who drops in class. GOLDANDSILVER won her maiden at the sixth attempt last time. Had decent maiden form before that.
