Inglis Easter Yearling, Majmu, heads sale success

Inglis Easter graduate Majmu firmly cemented her position as the best filly in South Africa with an emphatic victory in the Group 1 Cape Fillies Guineas over 1600m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Fellow Inglis graduate Mitraad also scored at stakes level in South Africa, while back in Australia five black type races were won across four different tracks by Inglis graduates on Saturday. Danger Close won in Melbourne, Whitlam saluted in Adelaide, Liberty’s Gem scored in Perth and stakes victories were recorded in Brisbane by Savoureaux and Big Money.

Majmu (Redoute’s Choice x Spontaneous) was the star of the show cruising away to a two and a half length win in South Africa’s feature event under jockey Anthony Delpech for trainer Mike de Kock, owner HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the Shadwell Team.

“I thought she won in facile fashion. The J & B Met here at the end of next month is definitely in our thinking. I will talk to Angus Gold and it might be her last race in South Africa,” said de Kock.

“We will definitely export her because I think she is well capable of winning a Group 1 overseas,” proclaimed de Kock.

Bred by Arrowfield Pastoral, Majmu was purchased by Shadwell racing manager Angus Gold for $300,000 from Arrowfield Stud’s draft at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Majmu, the 27th Group 1 winner for champion sire Redoute’s Choice, was crowned Champion 2YO Filly in South Africa last season following three wins from three starts. Her dam Spontaneous (by Hussonet) was a Group 1 winner in South America and Majmu is her second foal.
