Dissident Delivers Group 1 for China Horse Club and Newgate Farm

Four-time Group 1 winner Dissident maintained a well-established tradition for trainer Peter Moody and may well have begun another for his new part-owners with his win in Saturday's CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Moody has now won five of the past six runnings of the Orr Stakes, but for the China Horse Club, who bought into the horse late last year along with Newgate Farm, the result was the first at Group 1 level in Melbourne.

One of the more prolific buyers at recent Australian horse sales and an owner with fast-growing influence on Australian racing, the China Horse Club was among the leading buyers at last month's Magic Millions Gold Coast sale.

The Club also owns Group 1 winning filly First Seal which finished second in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick on Saturday while in Europe it is a part-owner with Coolmore of Epsom Derby winner Australia.

But for the moment the focus is on Dissident (pictured) whose immediate mission is the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield next month, with the $3m Doncaster Mile also a possible target.

Moody was suitably impressed and immensely proud of the horse's latest performance, describing Dissident as probably the best 1400m-1600m galloper in the country.

"I'm very proud of the horse. He's done a tremendous job," Moody said.

"He's probably one of the best milers, if not the best miler in the country. He's a four-time Group 1 winner and it's good to see him bounce back."

Moody had won the CF Orr with Typhoon Tracy (2010-2011), Black Caviar (2012) and Moment Of Change (2014).

Dissident, a $210,000 purchase by Moody at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Widden Stud draft, is a son of the Golden Slipper winner Sebring.
