DOUBLE CLUTCH in overdrive NON-BLACK TYPE umTHOMBOTHI HANDICAP

DOUBLE CLUTCH in overdrive NON-BLACK TYPE umTHOMBOTHI HANDICAP

There was an even start at the 2000m mark to this minor feature race at Greyville on Sunday afternoon. As with the previous feature race in the race before, the track had to be changed due to heavy rain the previous day.

KING NEPTUNE was the first to show from DOUBLE CLUTCH, RAAEES and CANDY MOON. Oddly enough the order only changed past the midway point. The pace was a slow one that KING NEPTUNE set and the field was content to sit back and wait until the home straight before pushing on for a better position. JOSHUA'S CROWN was content to sit in the back seat for most of the way, albeit a short way back.

The field was a compact one with six to ten lengths always separating first to last. Prior to entering the home straight, DOUBLE CLUTCH took over the lead and never relinquished that position. The fight was on for minor money and the long-time trailer, JOSHUA'S CROWN, passed all but one of the runners with a good, strong late run.

RAAEES had a steady run but has yet to recapture his best form and finished ahead of CANDY MOON who ran a steady race throughout.

The history of DOUBLE CLUTCH has been well documented and this was another great win from a horse who was not expected to live through his illness.
