Grade 1 L JAFFEE EMPRESS CLUB STAKES - The return of MAJMU to add to her list of successes
The Mike De Kock trained, MAJMU, returns to Johannesburg following her impressive Grade 1 in the Cape Guineas for fillies in early December. That run was also over the "mile" and she looks to have this field at her mercy. There are no certainties in horse racing, but this Australian bred daughter of REDOUTE'S CHOICE is about as close as one can get. Expect another very good finish from her again. One suspects that she has even more to come in the future. She is well weighted to win and at restrictive odds looks the part for this five time winner from six starts. The only race she failed to win was not her fault as she ran in to trouble on a number of occasions in the home straight.
The KZN trained, SAME JURISDICTION, daughter of MAMBO IN SEATTLE, is a top class three year old filly in her own right. Even though she has won four from seven starts, she has not had the best of luck. One feels that as soon as things go her way she will win a fair share of races in the top division to add the Grade 1 Thekwini Stakes over the distance at Greyville. If MAJMU were to fluff her lines this afternoon then expect SAME JURISDICTION to pick up the pieces.
HAMMIE'S HOOKER, daughter of TRIPPI, has been around the block as it were. This will be her first run at the course. Cape Town trainer, Mike Bass, under the suitorship of Robert Fayd'Herbe, has done well in Gauteng this season. Brother Bernard Fayd'Herbe has won on him eight out of his nine career wins . Don't rule him out.
Once again, respect the chances of trainer, Sean Tarry, who is making a bold bid to become the Champion Trainer for 2014/5.. He sends out TROPHY WIFE. She has been running well in this division and finished second twice and third once behind SIREN'S CALL in her last three starts. She flew up late in her penultimate and look out for a similar finish this afternoon.
Stable companion, TAMANEE, appears to be struggling at this level but she does have the stable elect jockey, S'Manga Khumalo aboard. Having said that, TROPHY WIFE, ridden by Raymond Danielson, runs well for this jockey. TAMANEE does look to have the element of surprise about her.
