GRADE 3 UMZIMKHULU STAKES - ONE FINE DAY runs on well to win after initial slow pace

The three year old daughter of TRIPPI, ONE FINE DAY, returned from a lengthy stint in Gauteng to land the first of three Grade 3 events on tonight's card. To her advantage was the fact that she was the only filly to have raced at this track,  albeit last July. The Mike De Kock inmate was well placed throughout the race.

Only six runners faced the start and as was expected they broke in an even line. The pace was slow for the most part and it was only in the home straight that the pace increased somewhat. FIRE DANCING was the first to show from SEATTLE LADY with FUTURE FANTASTIC content to sit back in third. SILVER CLASS led the second half of the six runners from ONE FINE DAY and ALEXIS.

The order remained the same for most of the journey until the top of the straight. It was with 400m to go that ONE FINE DAY moved up and took control and stepped up the pace to win from SILVER CLASS and the long time trailer, ALEXIS.

The winner, bred and owned by the Drakenstein Stud has now won three from ten starts and has pushed her earnings just shy of R450 000. It was an emphatic win and she could win a fair share of feature races in the coming months or so.
