COMPUTAFORM SPRINT (Grade 1) - The three year old fillies dominate premier sprint race in South Africa
The Mike De Kock and Anthony Delpech won their third race and second feature of the afternoon when ALBORAN SEA fought out an exciting finish with the other three year old filly from the Sean Tarry yard, CARRY ON ALICE. Interesting to note that on feature race days in Gauteng in recent times, the feature races have been largely fought out between these two trainers.
Stable companion of ALBORAN SEA, TIGER TERRITORY, was the slowest away. As for the rest, the speed was on from the start. TRIP TEASE led them on their journey at a good pace with the tote favourite, CAPTAIN OF ALL, right there in the early vanguard. CARRY ON ALICE also showed good early toe. For a brief moment NORMANZ also showed from COPPER PARADE, who unfortunately for his supporters, did not live up to his previous runs on the Highveld.
With 400m left the two three year old fillies, ALBORAN SEA and CARRY ON ALICE had the race to themselves with nothing else really kicking on. In the last 100m ALBORAN SEA had just a little more left in the tank and duly took the honours. CAPTAIN OF ALL race his usual honest race. It is interesting to note that he wins alternate races and should therefore be watched next time! TRIP TEASE stayed on for fourth. The balance never really looked like winning the race.
This was a consecutive close finish in the two Grade 1 sprint races on the afternoon. ALBORAN SEA has now earned a few Rand short of R2 million. Assuming that he runs during the KZN Winter Season he could have earned close to R4 million by the end of the season.
