The second feature of the afternoon produces another Cape Town trained winner. The Australian bread son of LONHRO, THE CONGLOMERATE was always handily placed in the race and produced his run down the outside to record an easy win in a competitive field. The Joey Ramsden trained runner made it a hat trick of wins and this was his fifth win from eight starts and could be a serious contender for the season. Owners Ingrid and Markus Jooste have winning feature races regularly in recent months.
ULTIMATE DOLLAR was restless in the stalls but broke well to be amongst the early leaders. The early lead was taken by RIFF RAF. He was followed by ULTIMATE DOLLAR, the favourite, KINGVOLDT and AMAZING STRIKE. The eventual winner, THE CONGLOMERATE, was just behind them. The pace was a very good one throughout. The order never changed until 600m out when AMAZING STRIKE briefly took the lead. All eyes were on KINGVOLDT, but he faded out of contention and it was left to his stable companion, THE CONGLOMERATE to challenge and challenge he did. With 400m left it was going to be a very good horse to beat him. He drew away by four lengths at one stage but he was eased in the latter stages by jockey Anton Marcus. MAC DE LAGO, LIGHT THE LIGHTS and ANJAAL were left to fight out a close tussle for the minor placings.
THE CONGLOMERATE has now earned just under R700 000 in his eight starts and he must be a leading contender for the Grade 1 Daily News at the same track, but over 2000m, in a month's time.
