TSOGO SUN GOLD MEDALLION (Grade 1) - Dennis Drier makes it four consecutive wins in this race with SEVENTH PLAIN
Trainer Dennis Drier has now won this race in each of the last four runnings of this race. An amazing feat it certainly is. It was yet another win for the owners, Ingrid and Markus Jooste, whose successes in the season's Grade 1's is endless.
More will be heard from the front finishers of this race. The start was a good one, except for MUWAARY, who received a bump at the start. He still managed to run on to finish a commendable fourth.
JUST AFRICA, voted the best turned out horse of the race, was the first to show and led the race for the greater part thereof. He was tracked by REDCARPET STYLE, PROSPECT STRIKE and the eventual winner, SEVENTH PLAIN, who was well placed throughout by jockey Anton Marcus. DONNY G looked menacing down the inside but never went on with the effort but he will be one to watch with experience.
With 300m to go JUST AFRICA began to wilt while SEVENTH PLAIN had the race won a way out as he drew away from his field in impressive fashion.. REDCARPET STYLE and PROSPECT STRIKE stayed on well for second and third respectively with MUWAARY making up ground late for fourth.
The win, SEVENTH PLAIN'S third from four starts, pushes his earnings to just short of R550 000. It was also two from two thus far for Australian bred horses in the Grade 1 races at Scottsville in Pietermaritzburg.
