American Pharoah became the first triple crown winner in 37 years when he won the Belmont Stakes today. 

Baffert had taken 3 tries at Triple Crown (Silver Charm '97, Real Quiet '98, War Emblem '02); delivers with American Pharoah in  the Belmont Stakes. 

American Pharoah led from the gun and dismantled the field in such style that the onlookers at Belmont Park where left stunned by the performance.  With the highest of cruising speeds the Espinoza ridden Zayat owned colt accelerated in the straight to leave Frosted and the rest for dead.  It was an imperious performance from a once in a lifetime horse. 

He led at all stages with racegoers awaiting the challengers starting with Mubtaahij and then Frosted as they all fell away one by one in the final 800m and 400m respectively. In the end it was a one horse affair as American Pharoah cleared home by 5 and a half lengths. 

This is the modern moment of horse racing history was captured by all in traditional media and social media with racing never having a better platform to market and serenade a champion. 

Bob Baffert did the unthinkable with this training feat,  a feat so long the envy of horsemen around the world: "Great horses do this, he's a great horse," he said,  taking the limelight of himself. 

American Pharoah became the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 and 12th overall to win horse-racing's Triple Crown Saturday in the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park.

The 3-year-old colt by Pioneerof the Nile completed one of the most difficult feats in sports, leading wire to wire to win the third jewel of the Triple Crown. He earlier won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. The three races are run over a span of five weeks.

American Pharoah ended a streak of 13 horses that came to Belmont with a chance but could not successfully navigate the 1 1/2-mile race called the Test of the Champions on a track called Big Sandy.

Emotional trainer Bob Baffert said he wished his parents were there to see history being made. "I just feel like I have a very special horse," he said. "It wasn't me; it was the horse."

The sold out signs where up at Belmont Park earlier in the day and the record crowds watched a moment in history,  a time to be remember for all time.  

American Pharoah was followed by Frosted then Keen Ice and Mubtaahij.
