PREVIEW: VAAL (SAND) - 2 JULY 2015

PREVIEW: VAAL (SAND) -  2 JULY 2015

RACE 1:

NEWS FILTER won her maiden at the third attempt last time when running at this track for the first time. Won by seven lengths and can repeat. RIPPIT WHIPPET won her maiden at the second attempt last time but has only run at Flamingo Park. May be good enough for second. Stable companion, SWEET PAINTED LADY, is still a maiden. Made a moderate debut last time. May improve. SHANKLY GATES has done very little to suggest that she could win. NORTH WESTERLY ran a fair race three runs back but will need the other horses to find the reverse gear for her to win!

1st - NEWS FILTER (1); 2nd - RIPPIT WHIPPET (2); 3rd - SWEET PAINTED LADY (7); 4th - SHANKY GATES (6); 5th - NORTH WESTERLY (5)

RACE 2:

PRONGHORN ran his best race in a long while last time and he may do something in this field. ASHANTEE has come mighty close in recent starts but generally weakens late. Yet to show on sand but respect ion form. FIDELIO has been improving with each run since making his debut three runs back. Don't leave this one out of your permutations. FIRST SIGN is never far back but also needs a more sustained finish. JAHUNDA did make some improvement last time.

1st - PRONGHORN (5); 2nd - ASHANTEE (1); 3rd - FIDELIO (13); 4th - FIRST SIGN (2); 5th - JAHUNDA (14)

RACE 3:

EASTSIDE has some fair form, but doesn't need at best to win this race. MYSTIC REALM is still a maiden after thirty five runs. He did show some improvement last time. Could take the step up to the next division if confirming that run. BATTLE OF ARCOLE did run a good race in his penultimate. Has been inconsistent before though. DUBLIN REBEL also ran well in his penultimate but never showed last time. Appears to run best on sand and this C & D. Watch! KILDONAN CASTLE ran on strongly in his penultimate run when finishing like an express train but couldn't repeat that last time. Strangely enough, he has yet to run on sand.

1st - EASTSIDE (13); 2nd - MYSTIC REALM (8); 3rd - BATTLE OF ARCOLE (4); 4th - DUBLIN REBEL (2); 5th - KILDONAN CASTLE (3)

RACE 4:

JAY BOY won this C & D last time. That was also his first run on sand. He won at 25/1 that day but would be unlikely to start at those odds this afternoon. Looks to be a decent bet. WARBASH did show some improvement last time but may earn something if repeating. LIMITED EDITION ran a promising post maiden last time when running on. BLUE TRACTOR won his maiden at the seventh try last time and may need to confirm. LORD WINDSOR has found good form since switching to this track and could be a factor again.

1st - JAY BOY (1); 2nd - LORD WINDSOR (9); 3rd - WARBASH (12); 4th - LIMITED EDITION (16); 5th - BLUE TRACTOR (7)

RACE 5:

BOLD APPROACH is unbeaten this C & D (2 from 2). Won well this C & D last time despite being bumped at the start. Has every chance of repeating that this afternoon. RIDE OF HONOUR is inconsistent but ran on nicely for second last time this C & D. QAWAASEM is way too inconsistent but she has won two from three this C & D. Did pull up lame last time. Will fight this one out. TZIGANE was not disgraced in the SA Fillies Sprint at Scottsville last time. Chance if repeating. ROYAL TRIP has more to find. Returns making respiratory noises.

1st - BOLD APPROACH (2); 2nd - RIDE OF HONOUR (8); 3rd - QAWAASEM (6); 4th - TZIGANE (1); 5th - ROYAL TRIP (3)

RACE 6:

THE ROYAL RUMBA has very good form on both turf and sand. Drops in trip but that should not be problematic. TORO ROSSO has run on three occasions for two wins and one second. He looks to be promising. Last time he won against weaker by eight lengths, his first run on sand. He will improve even further and has a definite hat trick chance. BRAD'S SURGE bounced back to form last time when finishing strongly on turf. Has won three time on sand. Could go close. GREEN ROCK won his last two. he held on gamely to win this C & D that day. PRINCE JAZEEM looks to be improving again.

1st - THE ROYAL RUMBA (3); 2nd - TORO ROSSO (5); 3rd - BRAD'S SURGE (4); 4th - GREEN ROCK (1); 5th - PRINCE JAZEEM (2)

RACE 7:

PERFECT TRIP showed some life last time when running on well after a slow beginning. That was his best run in a long while and could challenge this afternoon. KING'S JOY will have to repeat his penultimate run when also running on after a slowing start. DIESEL POWER ran a fair post maiden last time. Those were his best races in seven starts and both on sand! PROUD AS PUNCH has shown improvement in his last two starts. Respect. SUB SHAAWES will have to find earlier form but can still place.

1st - PERFECT TRIP (9); 2nd - KING'S JOY (1); 3rd - DIESEL POWER (10); 4th - PROUD AS PUNCH (7); 5th - SUB SHAAWES (6)

RACE 8:

KING'S WILD has a small chance if repeating his penultimate start. More often than not he returns coughing which indicates that he has become unsound. St best he may be able to do something with Gavin Lerena aboard. TIGER'S LEGACY is never that far back but still has to produce something extra to win. BATTLE OF ALMA has good form but fades from fairly promising positions. CAPTAINS CUP hung badly last time which would have cost him the race last time. SONG JET could be improving once more.

1st - KING'S WILD (8); 2nd - TIGER'S LEGACY (5); 3rd - BATTLE OF ALMA (2); 4th - CAPTAINS CUP (7); 5th - SONG JET (9)
