SAJA Presenting at I.C.H.S.W.J.

A delegation from the South African Jockey Academy (SAJA) will be attending the 6th International Conference for the Health, Safety and Welfare of Jockeys (I.C.H.S.W.J.), which is an international biennial conference that is organised by the European Medical Officers Group and falls under the auspices of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities. The conference is aimed at administrators, racecourse doctors and anyone involved in licensing of jockeys or with jockey related issues, and features presentations from some of the most highly respected medics, administrators, nutritionists and researchers who specialise in dealing with jockeys.
Two SAJA staff members have been invited to present their research at this prestigious conference. Kathy Krog, SAJA Dietician, will be presenting her Masters research entitled “Dietary intake, Energy expenditure and Lifestyle habits of apprentices at the South African Jockey Academy” and Tarry Sneyd, SAJA Sport Scientist, will be presenting her Masters research entitled “Injury and illness surveillance in apprentice jockeys at the South African Jockey Academy”.
Graham Bailey, SAJA Principal, said “it is a great honour that the research conducted by the Academy is being recognised internationally and I’m very proud of the research that Kathy and Tarryn have conducted and I’m sure their presentations will be both informative and insightful for all those present at the conference!”
The 6th International Conference for the Health Safety and Welfare of Jockeys is taking place over 3 days in Hong Kong from Wednesday 23rd to Friday 25th September 2015 and will be hosted by the Hong Kong Jockey Club at their Happy Valley Racecourse.
