GOLD CUP: TRAINERS OF OUTSIDERS COMMENT

Trainer Sean Tarry saddles the Argentinean-bred gelding Membrado for the Grade I R1,2million Canon Gold Cup at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday.

Tarry said that Membrado did not enjoy the Turffontein 3 200m in testing going in the Gold Bowl. However he felt that as he was "coming at them" when a 1,5 length second to Equal Image from a wide draw in the Gold Vase over 3 000m at Greyville, he should get the trip.

Membrado is 1kg better off with Equal Image in the Gold Cup and will jump from barrier nine under Anthony Delpech.

Tarry said that Bayete is the type that needs to have things going his way as "he is a horse who is only just up with this class" but added that he could win a big one on his day. He added that Bayete is not an easy ride, and that he has 7,25 lengths to find with Equal Image on 3kg better terms from a recent Scottsville 2 800m race.

Of the other trainers based at Clairwood, Weiho Marwing said that Long Dollar "could get a place on best form."

This Rakeen gelding won last season`s Gold Vase but finished 3,55 lengths behind Equal Image in this year`s renewal when casting a shoe. He is 2kg better off with Equal Image on Saturday and well drawn in eight.

Last year`s Vodacom Durban July third-placed Jagged Ice is drawn in pole position.

"The question is whether he will stay," said Albie Going, assistant to Dean Kannemeyer.
