PREVIEW: KENILWORTH - 21 NOVEMBER 2015

PREVIEW: KENILWORTH -  21 NOVEMBER 2015

RACE 1:

LA FAVOURARI has finished second in both starts. Looks to be the one to beat. OLI MIRANDA is a TRIPPI first timer. FRENCH CAPTAIN could improving again and can earn something. NADAS has shown good improvement in his last two. AL DANGEUR disappointed last time. Capable if reproducing best form.

1st - LA FAVOURARI (6); 2nd - OLI MIRANDA (11); 3rd - FRENCH CAPTAIN (1); 4th - NADAS (2); 5th - AL DANGEUR (3)

RACE 2:

SCHOOL RUN hasn't run since February. Change of yards and new trainer has had an excellent run of results. Follow this one. PROVENANCE  has won this C & D and could be improving again. ROMAN PERFECTION could sharpen up with the blinkers. Ran on well in an improved run last time. SAILS SET was not overshadowed in her post maiden last time. Watch for improvement. TARGARYAN won her maiden at the fourth attempt last time. That was this C & D. Has a squeak.

1st - SCHOOL RUN (1); 2nd - PROVENANCE (3); 3rd - ROMAN PERFECTION (5); 4th - SAILS SET (2); 5th - TARGARYAN (4)

RACE 3:

Ignore the latest run of LA REBEL  which was over a further distance. ACACIAWOOD is holding form well and is a C & D winner. Has been consistent. ALIYSA'S PRIZE needs a better finish than in last two starts. SECRET SOCIETY has the potential but tired late last time over further. OCEAN'S SWELL may prefer further.

1st - LA REBEL (7); 2nd - ACACIAWOOD (6); 3rd - ALIYSA’S PRIZE (3); 4th - SECRET SOCIETY (4); 5th - OCEAN'S SWELL (8)

RACE 4:

WHISKY BARON has been unlucky in both starts to date. Should be hard to oppose in this line up. CAPTAIN QUICK has been consistent. AUDITORIUM is never far back. UNION JACK needs to find a better finish. BOLD ASPEN weakens over shorter.

1st - WHISKY BARON (9); 2nd - CAPTAIN QUICK (6); 3rd - AUDITORIUM (3); 4th - UNION JACK (5); 5th - BOLD ASPEN (4)

RACE 5:

OVIDIO has a very good chance on current form. Yet to travel this far but sure to give it is all. FRIENDLY TIBBS runs on over shorter. Should be a main challenger. DESERT SWIRL ran his best race in ages last time. One to follow if confirming. Has earned this distance. AREZZO is never too far back and can earn something. PARACHUTE MAN is maintaining consistency.

1st - OVIDIO (4); 2nd - FRIENDLY TIBBS (3); 3rd - DESERT SWIRL (1); 4th - AREZZO (5); 5th - PARACHUTE MAN (6)

RACE 6: Grade 2 SELANGOR Cup - MUWAARY well weighted to win Grade 2

Mike De Kock sends out the impressive New Zealand bred MUWAARY. He did run three lengths back in fourth to SEVENTH PLAIN in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion at Scottsville in May. He won  last time when winning the Grade 2 Graham Beck Stakes at Turffontein. The way in which he won suggests that he is unlikely to stop there either. He is well weighted to win this race even though this is 200m further than he has ever raced before. There are a number of runners who are bound to improve. The first of these is HARD DAY'S NIGHT.

HARD DAY'S NIGHT has won this distance at Durbanville. Finished just  behind RODNEY last time. Is 2 kg better off and may get closer. Another Ingrid and Markus Jooste runner ridden in a feature race by Anton Marcus.

EIGHTH WONDER is also in good form. He too has never been this far but he is bred to get this far and further. He won well over shorter last time and is one to be considered over this distance. He is bound to show improvement.

RODNEY has raced four times for one win and three seconds. He meets EIGHTH WONDER at level terms for a two length defeat last time. More to find but one has to factor in the natural improvement that is bound to follow. Yard in very good form. Should also benefit from the extra distance.

VICTORIOUS JAY should enjoy the extra. Goes for the hat trick and cannot be ignored as she will be finding extra late.

1st - MUWAARY (1); 2nd - HARD DAY'S NIGHT (3); 3rd - EIGHTH WONDER (2); 4th - RODNEY (5); 5th - VICTORIOUS JAY (6)

RACE 7: R2,500,000 LANZERAC READY TO RUN STAKES presented by CTS (Non-Black Type) 1400m TURF - SEVENTH PLAIN ready to run for  R1.25 million

A number of future stars look set to challenge for a stake of R2.5 million at Kenilworth this afternoon in what is the richest race of the Cape Summer Season to date. An array of very good thoroughbreds will face the starter for the first prize of R1.25 million and over 1400m.. With the likes of the top Cape Town trainers, such as Mike Bass, Justin Snaith, Vaughan Marshall, Joey Ramsden, Brett Crawford and Glen Kotzen having horses in this race we have the in-form yards of Sean Tarry (Highveld) as well as Dennis Drier and Gavin Van Zyl, both KZN, in what promises to be an enthralling race.

SEVENTH PLAIN is no stranger to Cape Town. He began his career at this track last season. This imposing three year old son of SEVENTH ROCK has won four from five starts, two of which were in KZN. That included the Grade 1 Gold Medallion at Scottsville by over 2½ lengths. He was named Champion Juvenile for the 2014/5 Season.  He won over the distance at Greyville on July Day and has been rested since. He is exceptionally well weighted. He is drawn widest of all but they say that class horses can win from anywhere! He will be doing his best work late. Anton Marcus rides for the Jooste's.

Johannesburg trained LIEGE, from the Sean Tarry yard, ran a good post maiden last time at Turffontein when finishing two lengths behind MUWAARY. S'Manga Khumalo has the ride again. He stayed on well lat day and looks set to start moving to the top division soon. He is a good looking son of DYNASTY. Expect a very good run. May find it tough though.

CAPTAIN CHAOS lost it at the start last time. Chance if breaking on terms. Ignore that run as he is clearly much better than that.

ELYSIAN PARK ran a cracker against weaker last time. That was an impressive win and he looks to be ready to take the step up to the next level. Yard has been in excellent form in Cape Town. He should run in to the money and is drawn in pole position.

Another Ingrid and Markus Jooste runner that has to have a decent chance. He caught the eye last time with a very strong finish after having lost two lengths at the start. He has raced against some useful fields already. Could earn something. Jory Ramsden trained and Bernard Fayd'Herbe ridden.

1st - SEVENTH PLAIN (1); 2nd - LIEGE (3); 3rd - CAPTAIN CHAOS (2); 4th - ELYSIAN PARK (8); 5th - THE STONE THROWER (4)

RACE 8: LANZERAC ALTA MATER GREEN POINT STAKES (WFA) (Grade 2) - ACT OF WAR Vs FUTURA, should be a humdinger

Expect a cracker of a race between the two sons of DYNASTY when the four year old ACT OF WAR meets the five year old FUTURA. ACT OF WAR has won eight of his ten starts with two seconds. Add to that he his is unbeaten this C & D with four wins from four starts. He made a winning comeback last time with a win at Durbanville over a distance short of his best. He faces another champion, FUTURA, who runs for the first time since winning the Champions Stakes at Greyville almost four months ago. He will more than likely need this run as he prepares for the more lucrative races this season. Despite this, one can expect a good finish between these two superstars of the turf.

CAPTAIN AMERICA has been holding form well and should be worth considering. His major success this year was when he won the Grade 1 Horse Chestnut at Turffontein in March. His comeback run three weeks ago was a good one when clearly needing the run he got going a few metres too late and had to settle for second. He will have improved his fitness with that run and should be reaching his peak with this run and perhaps one more.

Mike Bass sends out five of the ten runners. Two of the his  runners could feature at the back end of quartets. One has to suggest that Grant Van Niekerk would have been given choice of rides. He has the ride on SAIL FOR GOLD. He takes on stronger but he looks to be improving at the right time and should have a place chance along with ASHTON PARK who looks to be improving sat the right time in the season.

1st - ACT OF WAR (2); 2nd - FUTURA (1); 3rd - CAPTAIN AMERICA (3); 4th - SAIL FOR GOLD (10); 5th - ASHTON PARK (8)

RACE 9:

CAUTIONTOTHEWIND ran her best race in three last time. Stayed on that day this C & D. BAQUEIRA showed huge improvement in her second time last time. SILVER RAIN is still improving. Place chance. ALL MINE made a fair debut last time when unfancied. Watch! THORNBIRD is improving, albeit slowly.

1st - CAUTIONTOTHEWIND (1); 2nd - BAQUEIRA (5); 3rd - SILVER RAIN (9); 4th - ALL MINE (4); 5th - THORNBIRD (3)
