PREVIEW: TURFFONTEIN - 6 FEBRUARY 2016
|
PREVIEW: TURFFONTEIN - 6 FEBRUARY 2016
RACE 1:
DOLPHIN has finished second in his last three starts. Form looks to be too strong. JUSTASH ran on well last time after a slow start. MOVIE SHOW is an ATSO first timer. CALAPAN did not run to form last time. Consider on better form. CHERISHED GOLD looks to be improving.
1st - DOLPHIN (1); 2nd - JUSTASH (3); 3rd - MOVIE SHOW (9); 4th - CALAPAN (4); 5th - CHERISHED GOLD (8)
RACE 2:
MALINGA is a SILVANO first timer from a yard in "hot" form at present. RONNIE ROCKET has been improving, albeit slowly. Stayed on last time. Top jockey aboard. GOLDEN MAN has had nine seconds from fifteen starts. must be considered again. CHESTNUT CHARLIE needs a better finish. IN THE MOMENT may prefer 1200m.
1st - MALINGA (8); 2nd - RONNIE ROCKET (1); 3rd - GOLDEN MAN (5); 4th - CHESTNUT CHARLIE (4); 5th - IN THE MOMENT (3)
RACE 3:
SEATTLE SURPRISE was backed in on debut last time. Will improve on that run. Top yard and jockey. Stable companion, ABBEY CHASE, may improve but has moderate form. Top jockey in charge. SHELLY is not that consistent but looks better over this distance. SNOWDONIA finished third behind TORERA on Tuesday. Chance on that good run. CAMBRIDGE CHOIR has steady. Usually runs on.
1st - SEATTLE SURPRISE (10); 2nd - ABBEY CHASE (4); 3rd - SHELLY (1); 4th - SNOWDONIA (2); 5th - CAMBRIDGE CHOIR (3)
RACE 4:
SHIMMERING BROOK won his maiden and post maiden in his last two starts. This will be stronger but could be worth following for the hat trick win. FAH FEE is never far back. Did run on last time. MASTER SWITCH is beginning to find form again. Top jockey aboard. THE ELMO EFFECT runs for the second time after a rest. May prefer further but watch! GENTLEMAN ONLY has been running on against weaker in his last two. Place chance.
1st - SHIMMERING BROOK (6); 2nd - FAH FEE (1); 3rd - MASTER SWITCH (2); 4th - THE ELMO EFFECT (4); 5th - GENTLEMAN ONLY (7)
RACE 5:
SHE'S A LOOKER drops in class and looks to be improving as well. RUBY RUBY has been running on and is very far back. Has also won this C & D. PEG O' MY HEART may be better over further but yard and jockey in excellent form. EINA has a shout on decent recent form. J & B winning trainer and jockey. AMERICAN STORY won his maiden at thine third attempt last time. May need to confirm that run.
1st - SHE'S A LOOKER (2); 2nd - RUBY RUBY (9); 3rd - PEG O' MY HEART (8); 4th - EINA (10); 5th - AMERICAN STORY (6)
RACE 6:
SOVEREIGN MINT ran a cracker last time when losing a length and flying up late for second. Can repeat to score this afternoon. LIGHT THE WAY is improving again. Can trouble the top few. KILLUA CASTLE finished only two lengths behind FRENCH NAVY last time in the London News. That run would give him a sharp chance in this field. JOLIE ROGER won against weaker over shorter last time. Has claims this C & D where he has won before. SILVA HAWK has more to find for the win.
1st - SOVEREIGN MINT (7); 2nd - LIGHT THE WAY (8); 3rd - KILLUA CASTLE (1); 4th - JOLIE ROGER (10); 5th - SILVA HAWK (9)
RACE 7: TONY RUFFEL STAKES (Grade 3) - ROMANY PRINCE has the form but not the draw
The draw could play a major part in the outcome of the first Grade 3 on today's card at Turffontein this afternoon. ROMANY PRINCE has very good form and has yet to run a bad race over this C & D. He has run three times over the C & D for one win and two seconds. On form he appears to be the one to beat. Many will look elsewhere for the winner as he is drawn one from outside in twelve in a thirteen horse field. If he can overcome that draw and get a clear run in to the line then I see no reason why he cannot win. He ran a very good race at this level last time and ought to be respected again this afternoon. his merit rating have, on the other hand, shot up from 97 to 101 for this race. I expect him to give a good account of himself despite the draw on the tighter of the two Turffontein tracks.
The Mike De Kock, SUYOOF, has only raced three times. He was an impressive second behind BRAZUCA on debut and then proceeded to win his next two, which included a feature race similar to this last time. He is still improving and should be the one to challenge the judges in the latter stages of the race. Top jockey has the ride.
RIKITIKITANA has begun to find "his feet" since not showing against NOAH FROM GOA in the Dingaans in November. His next two runs after that had showed improvement and was rewarded with a win over a similar distance at the Vaal last time. Yard and jockey will be of note.
NEW PREDATOR has run five races thus far for two wins and three close up seconds. He takes on stronger but will be running on in the latter stages of the race. LINEKER represents the Justin Snaith yard, fresh from their eight from twelve winners on J & B Met Day last week. Top jockey, who did so well last Saturday for the yard on that day, is aboard. Don't ignore.
1st - ROMANY PRINCE (5); 2nd - SUYOOF (6); 3rd - RIKITIKITANA (8); 4th - NEW PREDATOR (3); 5th - LINEKER (4)
RACE 8: THREE TROIKAS STAKES (Grade 3) - SHE'S A DRAGON to scare them off
A useful field of three year old fillies face the start in this the second Grade 3 race at the Turffontein race course. SHE'S A DRAGON has been rested since the middle of November. She has been rested for longer before and won and there should not be any problems in that respect this afternoon. She is not from one of the top yards on the Highveld, but when they have a decent inmate they invariably do very well with that horse. That applies here with SHE'S A DRAGON, who has won three from her five starts, with one second and a fourth to boot. That form should see this daughter of JAY PEG go extremely close this afternoon. She does finish well and has the added bonus of last season's champion jockey aboard.
NEGROAMARO has the twelve draw from fourteen. She has a jockey who has shown over the years that he can win with his mounts from any draw over any distance. She has a look of class about her and does finish better than most.
MADAME DU BOIS has been rested for just over three months. She was soundly beaten by NEGROAMARO but had the upper hand in the next race in a similar race to this. Could be interesting as MADAME DU BOIS has the weight advantage from that run.
NOOR las ran in the Cape fillies Guineas in December. She was soundly beaten into sixth that day by the outstanding filly, SILVER MOUNTAIN. A defeat by just over six lengths to such a filly is no disgrace and one can look to a vastly improved effort today. Top yard and to jockey.
HEAPS OF FUN also has a top yard and jockey behind her.She is still improving. She won this C & D three runs back. Against her will be the widest of wide draws against which she has to contend. Looks to be a very good race on the cards.
1st - SHE'S A DRAGON (1); 2nd - NEGROAMARO (2); 3rd - MADAME DUBOIS (3); 4th - NOOR (7); 5th - HEAPS OF FUN (4)
RACE 9:
JULIE DOOLITTLE drops in class but has not run for almost five months. Needs to find more than form on sand. ALDIARA has the form and was putting in a late effort last time. LADY AL drops in class but did finish well last time. Watch! MODJADJI rises in class but was also a distant third last time. LA MANGA was a surprise winner against weaker last time after some hefty late support. Has tons of work to do here to win again, but respect.
1st - JULIE DOOLITTLE (1); 2nd - ALDIARA (5); 3rd - LADY AL (2); 4th - MODJADJI (6); 5th - LA MANGA (4)
