PREVIEW: TURFFONTEIN (NIGHT) - 9 FEBRUARY 2016
|
PREVIEW: TURFFONTEIN (NIGHT) - 9 FEBRUARY 2016
RACE 1:
RIVARINE won on debut last time. Can follow up. Keep an eye on the betting on the first timers, RIBOVAR, CAPTAIN SYDNEY and PERSIAN APPROVAL. BOLLEMAKIESIE won his maiden at the third attempt last time. Had good maiden form before that.
1st - RIVARINE (2); 2nd - RIBOVAR (9); 3rd - CAPTAIN SYDNEY (4); 4th - BOLLEMAKIESIE (1); 5th - PERSIAN APPROVAL (7)
RACE 2:
FURSA was pipped on the line when making her debut this C & D last time. Can win this. STAR BURST GALAXY won her debut when winning this C & D last time. Looks promising. Can win again. ARISSA is a SILVANO first timer. EXQUISITE TOUCH is a VAR first timer. Should be speedy. LITTLE SWIFT is a TOREADOR first timer.
1st - FURSA (6); 2nd - STAR BURST GALAXY (1); 3rd - ARISSA (2); 4th - EXQUISITE TOUCH (5); 5th - LITTLE SWIFT (8)
RACE 3:
CAPTAIN CHIPS has had a few hared luck stories in his last two. Will be setting out to eliminate these today. MOMBELA made a good debut last time despite returning with respiratory noises. RELISH is never far back. Change of yards. CRY OF THE TOREADOR looks to be improving again. Has a tongue tie today. ASHKENAZI may improve without the blinkers today.
1st - CAPTAIN CHIPS (5); 2nd - MOMBELA (10); 3rd - RELISH (2); 4th - CRY OF THE TOREADOR (1); 5th - ASHKENAZI (3)
RACE 4:
TRIP TO TROY looks to have some potential despite the indifferent form. The blinkers may help tonight. SMARTIFACT has run three times and has coughed three times. Has run well once. Look for an improved race this time. TRULY ran way below expectations last time. The blinkers are removed. Give another chance. DIVAR improved in his last two. Piere Strydom rides. GREATFIVEEIGHT showed improvement second time at the races last time.
1st - TRIP TO TROY (4); 2nd - SMARTIFACT (3); 3rd - TRULY (1); 4th - DIVAR (2); 5th - GREATFIVEEIGHT (11)
RACE 5:
TROPHY WIFE ran in a similar race last time but that was over shorter. She has faced some strong fields in her career to date and looks to be too strong for this field, despite the 61½ kg she has to carry.PENNINGTON SANDS has gone off the boil somewhat. Will have a chance if running on and not losing ground at the start. RUN FOR REVELRY will need to repeat penultimate run. FORTITUDE ran a very good race last time when running on to win this distance after a slow start. Watch! BOUNTIFUL HARVEST is way too inconsistent but Piere Strydom rides.
1st - TROPHY WIFE (1); 2nd - PENNINGTON SANDS (4); 3rd - RUN FOR REVELRY (2); 4th - FORTITUDE (5); 5th - BOUNTIFUL HARVEST (3)
RACE 6:
BEZANOVA has very good form against very good fields. Finished his last two second behind FRENCH NAVY. Looks to have an undeniable chance tonight to win. Yard in terrific form. ZAMBEZI RIVER won this C & D last time. Can win again. Seasoned campaigner. UNPARALLELED showed promise as a three year old. Needs to find that form. MAJESTIC BAY is never far back but does tend to lose ground. Runs on and has a light mass. WHITELINE FEVER can earn something.
1st - BEZANOVA (3); 2nd - ZAMBEZI RIVER (2); 3rd - UNPARALLELED (5); 4th - MAJESTIC BAY (8); 5th - WHITELINE FEVER (1)
RACE 7: TOMMY HOTSPUR HANDICAP (Grade 3) - The back-to-form MOOFEED looking to continue the trend tonight
MOOFEED, the Mike De Kock trained five year old son of DUKE OF MARMALADE, showed a welcome return to form last time on the inside track when he recorded his sixth career win from twenty two starts. That day he won a condition race when finishing strongly. He is back over the course and distance where he has won two from three starts with a close up second on the third occasion.
SPLENDID GARDEN beat MOOFEED the last day that they met on this track, but over 1160m. He is 1½ kg better off tonight, but MOOFEED did show the necessary improvement last time to suggest that it will not be as easy this time around to win again. On form his chances should not be ignored.
One of the "hottest" trainers at present is Alec Laird who hasn't relented since he won the J & B Met a mere ten days ago. He has two runners in the race. DOLLAR DAZZLER will be ridden by jockey Andrew Fortune who rode four winners on the eight race card in Port Elizabeth on Monday. DOLLAR DAZZLER was an unlucky loser on Summer Cup Day when he suffered a saddle slip in the Merchants. It was a great run that day as he finished a close up third behind BRUTAL FORCE. That day he started at 25/1. He is currently priced up at 9/2. He has beaten MOOFEED before.
DOING IT FOR DAN will be running on while MOD BARLEY shows very good early pace. He is 1½ kg better off tonight for a one and a quarter length defeat by MOOFEED. He must have a chance if stealing a march on the field.
1st - MOOFEED (4); 2nd - SPLENDID GARDEN (5); 3rd - DOLLAR DAZZLER (1); 4th - DOING IT FOR DAN (2); 5th - MOD BARLEY (8)
RACE 8:
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN is inclined to be inconsistent but she has shown that she could be effective over the distance and course. Look for an improved effort tonight. SECOND BITE is never too far away but needs to find a stronger finish for the win. REGAL ROSE may show more with a step down in class but a major step up in weight carried. WINTRY NIGHT weakens late but has an apprentice carrying 4 kg less. VANDA improved slightly last time.
1st - STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (9); 2nd - SECOND BITE (3); 3rd - REGAL ROSE (1); 4th - WINTRY NIGHT (7); 5th - VANDA (12)
