TOMMY HOTSPUR HANDICAP (Grade 3) - VIKING HERO comes from off the pace to win Grade 3 sprint.

There was an upset to the running of the Grade 3 Tommy Hotspur Sprint at Turffontein this evening when the outsider landed the honours. The pace was on throughout the race. The race was contested by some extremely useful sprinters.

The break was a clean one and another outsider, JADE BAY, was the first to break the line and set a good pace up front. He was closely pursued by one of the more favoured runners, SPLENDID GARDEN, DOLLAR DAZZLER and AURUM POT. The tote favourite, MOOFEED, six lengths off the pace.

JADE BAY led the field to the 400m marker, but fell back in the latter stages as LUMYA moved up to challenge. His challenge did not last long though as VIKING HERO broke through down the centre late to win well. Well ridden by Jared Penny. This Grant Maroun trained six year old son of MULLINS BAY has now won six races from thirty eight starts and has earned just over R700 000.
