On Track in Hong Kong, Thursday

Champions Mile / Chairman’s Sprint Prize Thursday Track Notes – 28 April

Champions Mile

BEAUTY ONLY, BEAUTY FLAME (HK)

Beauty Flame galloped 800m on the all-weather track in 56.5s (29.3, 27.2) AND Beauty Only in 58.0s (29.8, 28.2).

Trainer Tony Cruz said: “I’m very happy with both horses, they’re in good form for Sunday.”

BOW CREEK (AUS)

Galloped 1200m on turf in 1m 21.4s (30.2, 28.6, 22.6).

Trainer John O'Shea was on hand for the first time this morning: “Very happy with his work and he looks immaculate. He’s as good as we can have him. On his day he’s a very, very good horse but he needs a few things to go his way. He needs to be smothered up behind them, get the right genuine tempo and good to firm ground. He’s ready to run a race.”

DUNDONNELL (HK)

Galloped 800m on the all-weather track in 55.7s (31.3, 24.4).

Trainer Caspar Fownes said: “He’s going good. I think this horse is improving. He’s up against super stars but I’d just like him ridden relaxed and quiet for the mile and see him closing off. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see him running in the first five or six. If he does that then we’ll know he’s a genuine good horse at that trip. This will be his third start for me – he’s starting to take a chill pill and he’s very relaxed in his work now.”

GUN PIT (HK)

Galloped 800m on the all-weather track in 55.9s (31.4, 24.5).

Trainer Caspar Fownes said: “He’s going well. I just want to see him running on a little bit. He’ll be back in the field, so just working home a little bit would be nice. I’m not expecting anything, but if he can be only a few lengths off them at the end to show he’s got something on that surface and is adapting, that would be nice. We’re looking at possible options for him and the Breeders’ Cup on the American dirt is something we’d look at. I’d like to just get him on a surface that we know he would handle, just to see exactly what he’s got.”

MAURICE (JPN)

Galloped 800m on turf in 54.0s (30.6, 23.4).

Assistant trainer Toru Munakata said: “He is very relaxed and walking nicely even after the fast work. He is in good condition. Tomorrow he will remain in the quarantine area.”

PACKING PINS (HK)

Worked 800m on the all-weather in 50.2s (27.1, 23.1).

REWARDING HERO (HK)

Galloped 1200m on turf under Tommy Berry in 1m 25.0s (30.4, 31.0, 23.6).

Trainer John Moore said: “Rewarding Hero galloped down the straight and the jockey was happy with him. He’s clean in his wind. We all know he’s long in the tooth and will have his work cut out but if he could run a place we’d be more than happy.”

SAFETY CHECK (UAE)

Cantered on the all-weather track under work rider Willie Ryan who said: “He's moving well - feels sound.”

SECRET WEAPON (HK)

Galloped 800m on the all-weather track in 54.2 (28.9, 25.3).

Trainer Dennis Yip said: “He’s in very good form. He had an easy gallop this morning on the all-weather, nothing too fast – keep him fresh. I’m putting the blinkers on him to hopefully help him concentrate and jump a little bit faster so he can sit closer, I don't want him too far back.”

Chairman’s Sprint Prize

AEROVELOCITY (HK)

Worked on 800m on the all-weather track in 57.9s (29.7, 28.2).

Trainer Paul O’Sullivan said: “Everything’s fine this morning. You can’t play catch-up with them, if you’re behind, you’re behind. He’s a race day horse and if he lifts, you never know.”

BUFFERING (AUS)

Routine canter on the all-weather track – moved freely and looked relaxed and cool on a warm, humid morning.

CHARLES THE GREAT (HK)

Galloped 800m on the turf course in 57.6s (32.6, 25.0).

Trainer John Moore said: “Charles The Great galloped on the turf down the back. He’s always a good worker. He’s well but he’s in the twilight of his career so he needs to step up again – hopefully he’ll get a good gate, and I’m hoping he can be ridden much closer this time and pick up a bit of prize money.”

CHAUTAUQUA (AUS)

Routine canter on the all-weather track – moved freely and looked relaxed and cool on a warm, humid morning.

MONGOLIAN SATURDAY (USA)

Galloped 800m on the turf course in 55.4s (33.1, 22.3).

Trainer Ganbat Enebish said: “That was his last fast work this morning, just to give him a good blow out ready for the race, and tomorrow he will walk. We took him around the parade ring because he’s a horse that gets nervous when the race gets closer – he had the eye cups on to calm him, but he will not wear them in the race, only to the starting gate. It’s a tough race, it’s a great race to watch, we have the world’s best sprinters all in one race.”

NOT LISTENIN’TOME (HK)

Galloped 800m on turf in 52.1s (28.4, 23.7)

Trainer John Moore said: “He galloped down the straight on the turf course and everything seems fine. The jury’s still out with respect to the trip to Dubai and back. He looks great in his coat and he’s put the body weight back on but when they come back from these trips, not many will run up to their full ability.”

PENIAPHOBIA (HK)

Worked 800m on the all-weather track in 55.3s (29.8, 25.5)

Trainer Tony Cruz said: “I was very pleased with his barrier trial, he trialled really well and is in good form.”
