TRACK AND BALL DERBY (Grade 3) - STORM WARNING approaching Scottsville

STORM WARNING (7), the six year old son of JET MASTER, looks likely to create a storm were he to win the Grade 3 Derby at Scottsville this afternoon. Currently on offer at 17/2, he looks set to improve on his seventh in the Lonsdale at Greyville last time. He was gaining fast that day over the same distance as today's race. The Johan Janse van Rensburg yard has been in good form this Winter Season in KZN. Highveld jockey, Randall Simons rides STORM WARNING for the first time although he is no stranger to the yard, having already ridden three winners for them. Randall Simons has been in very good form and has won five from his last thirty starts. The son of JEST MASTER has a string of feature race runs in recent months, without win success. This is an open race.

BANKABLE TEDDY (12) caught the eye last time when making his KZN debut in the Grade 1 Daily News at Greyville over 2000m. Another Highveld trainer has a very good chance. Brian Wiid had a purple patch in the province during the summer months. BANKABLE TEDDY has won two from twelve but this is a drop in class. The only thing standing in his way could be his age.

A trainer who is certainly continuing with his purple patch is Michael Azzie both in KZN and the Highveld. He sends out DEPUTY JUD (3), the four year old son of JUDPOT. He is a versatile horse who has won over distances ranging from 1400m to 2450m. Last year he ran a creditable third to FRENCH NAVY in the SA Classic and second to LEGAL EAGLE in the Derby. The ignore DEPUTY JUD would be a huge mistake. Take note, Weichong Marwing has the ride. This is his first time aboard.

DISCO AL (2) cannot be ignored. He did win this race last year. Once again Anton Marcus. He has been sparingly raced since then but could race fresh. Stable companion, COLTRANE (4) has been expensive to follow for a while now. He is a good stayer but has a habit of finding one or two to beat him.
