In a weak race SHOW STEALER (1) looks hard to beat. CAPTAINBLACKBEARD (8) ran on strongly in a vastly improved second run last time. TWENTY FOUR CARAT (2) stayed on last time. HEELAGAINSTTHEHEAD (5) has shown some life in his last two. CAUTIONTOTHEWIND (7) could be improving.

RACE 2:

WHISPERING LIGHT (13)  made a very good debut last time. Pipped on the line. Can go all the way. HARAKIRI  (3) has run well in both starts. Should contest the finish. BESHAYIR GIRL (1) is a BOLD SILVANO first timer. MOULINA  (5) falters late but never far behind. L.A. ROCKS (4) is a SEVENTH ROCK first timer.

RACE 3:

ST ELMO’S FIRE (2) will be finding extra late. DARING MISS (10) improved by twenty four lengths in her second start last time. DONTKNOWHY (1) lost her latest in the boardroom last time. Can make amends. COME ON INN (3) is consistent can earn again. CONSEQUENTIALLY (4) has a shout if finishing well again.

RACE 4:

NORDIC BREEZE (1) drops in class and will be running on. Has won two from three starts. FELICITY FLYER (3) will be running on late and should not be ignored. STREAMING (7) ran a fair post maiden last time and needs a better finish. REINE TONNERRE (6) won her maiden at the third attempt last time. May need to confirm. CAPTAIN GAMBLER (2) also won her maiden at the third attempt last time.

RACE 5:

Trainer Joey Ramsden should have a huge say in the outcome of this race. ATTENBOROUGH (1) has yet to run out of the money. Has won two from four. Big chance again. TABLE BAY (2) takes on stronger but looks to be progressive. Won impressively by four lengths last time. Two wins from three. DANCER (3) will need a stronger finish but is the third Joey Ramsden selection. The only Joey Ramsden horse not in the selection is OUR MATE ART (5). He ran a very good debut last time after having won on debut two runs back. Top yard and jockey. NEWLANDS (4) won at the second attempt last time.

RACE 6:

CHEVAUCHEE (9) will be finishing strongly and has won two from five. A TIME TO DREAM (1) showed form return last time. Can repeat. CAT AND THE MOON (2) may need to find more to win. ACROSTAR (3) looks to be finding form again. FEAR NOT (4) is battling to win again.

RACE 7: WINTER OAKS (Listed) - INANNA has the class to win

This looks to be a competitive Grade 3 Winter Oaks over 2200m. Mike Bass, as he always does, could be competitive in a feature race. He sends out the talented but misfiring INANNA (3). This daughter of TRIPPI, could have the beating of this field even though she is not fancied in the betting although she has shortened somewhat from 8/1 to 15/2. She has yet to try this far and on breeding could find this just a tad too far. She has not run on since she won at this track in February. In her favour is the fact that her recent runs were against stronger. She has every chance of causing a minor upset in this race.

Stable companion, ARABIAN WINTER (6), has very good form and she has been finishing well. She too may be taking on a distance a bit too far. With both of these runners they have two top jockeys aboard and tactics could play a big part. She too drops in class.

GOODTIME GAL (2) ran a great second last time against a strong field. She has the services of a top jockey. One to keep an eye on.

JETANO (5) takes on stronger but has good form while SOLANA (1) is one that could surprise.

RACE 8: WINTER DERBY (Grade 3) - JET AIR is back in form and could lead them home Derby

Focus shifts this weekend to Cape Town where the Grade 3 Winter Derby for three year olds is set to take place. Trainer Mike Bass sends out JET AIR (3), the three year old son of VISIONAIRE in the race with his stable jockey, Grant Van Niekerk aboard. He had been off form until he won a MR 96 at this track last time. He was beaten by just over four lengths last season in the Grade 1 Premiers Challenge when losing out to RABADA. he did lose a length that day but ran on well. He finished just over three lengths behind NOAH FROM GOA in the Grade 1 Cape Guineas. Again that run was against far stronger. His win last time was over 2000m and the way he won that race suggests that he should get the Derby distance.

CAPTAIN SPLENDID (2) won the East Cape Derby over the same distance at Fairview in May. The CAPTAIN AL three year old has been well placed by his trainer, Justin Snaith. He has been running on strongly. Interestingly young promising apprentice Lyle Hewitson who rode him to victory in his last start, will been flown from Durban for the ride.

WHISKY BARON (4) may only be a one-time winner but he has been showing potential. He has been running on in feature races and should be ready to mount a serious challenge. Brett Crawford has top Cape Town jockey, Bernard Fayd'Herbe aboard.

Stable companion ONE AWAY (8) has a money chance even though he does on much stronger. Only ten horses face the starter and it should not be impossible for him to earn. Highveld jockey Francois Herholdt, who rode a cracker on him last time, has retained the ride.

LARIMAR (10) could cause an upset with Richard Fourie aboard for the Glen Puller trained charge. On form, he has something to find, but jockey could be worth a few lengths to him and the result. 

RACE 9:

MIDNITE ZONE (6) is holding form well and has excellent form this C & D. OVIDIO (1) had very good form before her five month break. Watch over the shorter distance for today. SILICONE VALLEY (3) won well over further last time. is versatile. SPIRIT OF HAMILTON (7) has been consistent and has been running on. ASHTON PARK (4) has the ability to cause an upset.
